Pan Boyang, a counselor at China Agricultural University, served as the director of regional event service at Tangba at the National Bobsleigh Bobsleigh Center during the Winter Olympics. It is his daily job to "boringly" repeatedly move iron horses, swing iron horses, guard "iron horses", and surround a trail to guide the audience into the venue.
"Iron Horse" is our "partner", together to guard the "gate" of the venue, guard the drop-off area to the passage to the arena, although there is no wonderful game, there is no exciting cheer, but this is our Winter Olympics "playing field"...
At 18:50 on February 11, the spectators who came to watch the third round of the men's steel frame snowmobile race had completed the security check and boarded the car. Upon receiving orders, I and a dozen volunteers took batons, megaphones, warning bands, and 21 "iron horses" to the work area: a road about 500 meters long from The No. 5 Road in the drop-off area to the entrance of the National Bobsleigh Center TicketIng Tunnel, including a mixed uphill road and a pond dam.
Everyone acted separately, and in just 10 minutes, 21 "iron horses" surrounded a walking path, and then stood according to the pre-designated position, and my post was at the entrance. At this time, the audience has appeared in our sights. The temperature in Yanqing is particularly low, the hands freeze after a while, and the cold wind can be poured into the throat and eyes, blowing the teeth straight to fight, but we still have to keep reminding the audience: the road is slippery, there are ramps, everyone pays attention to safety...
"You know what? Chinese player Yan Wengang achieved a breakthrough in the number of medals in China's steel frame snowmobile project..." At 23 o'clock, the game was over, and when the spectators who came out of the arena waved small flags in their hands and shouted excitedly at me, I instantly broke the defense. Yes, although I was on the sidelines, I couldn't watch the game, and I couldn't even hear the cheers. From the audience, we know that the Chinese athletes have achieved good results, and as volunteers, all the efforts are worth it: we have contributed to the Beijing Winter Olympics.
Speaking of "iron horses", one weighs more than a dozen pounds. A dozen of us, carrying the "iron horse" up and down, soon tired of sweating. As soon as the cold wind blew, the sweat sandwiched in the down jacket became cold and cold, and everyone had to jump and stomp their feet in place to warm up.
The wind in Yanqing is particularly strong, although the "iron horse" weighs more than a dozen pounds, but casually placed on the ramp, a strong wind blows, it will be blown to the east and west. In this case, if you are not careful, you will also cut the passing audience. Therefore, the placement of the "iron horse" is also particularly exquisite. Previously, everyone studied for three or four days and practiced countless times. After the "iron horse" is placed, it must be connected with a warning belt. Sometimes, when the wind was too strong, we stood by the "iron horse" and held it.
The "Iron Horse" storage area is about 200 meters from the placement point, and I also borrowed two small carts to facilitate transportation. But the trail is a slope, put the "iron horse" on the trolley, it will slip out when going downhill, it is very laborious to go uphill, it takes 1 person to push, and there must be 3 people to help, in order to safely "escort" the iron horse into place...
When everyone rests, they often joke that a few of us are "guarding the gate" for the venue area. But now that I think about it, it is really not easy to guard the "gate".
