Recently, Hyundai Motor announced that it will launch a new exclusive architecture integrated modular architecture (IMA) for electric vehicles in 2025. The IMA architecture is upgraded from the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) to not only standardize the vehicle chassis, but also provide 9 standardized battery packs and 5 standardized motors for the entire product line, which is expected to cover all segments of electric passenger cars as well as the special-purpose vehicle market (customized car market such as ride-hailing).

Standardized battery packs can be shared between different vehicles to improve the efficiency of scale. According to Hyundai Motor's plan, among the nine standardized battery packs, there will be 6 kinds of 800V battery packs for passenger cars and 3 kinds of 400V battery packs for special purpose vehicles. In terms of battery types, Hyundai Will also introduce lithium iron phosphate batteries in price-sensitive models around 2025, while solid-state batteries are expected to come out in 2030. In terms of electric drive systems, the main research and development direction will be the decline in cost and weight, and Hyundai Motor expects the cost and weight of the new generation of electric drive units to drop by 35% and 30% respectively.
