On March 15th, sponsored by the Guangdong Provincial Museum, the "Solemn Vientiane - Chinese Water and Land Painting Art Exhibition" which brings together the Fine Works of Water and Land Painting of the Capital Museum, Shanxi Museum, Guangdong Provincial Museum, Gansu Provincial Museum, Wuwei City Museum, Minle County Museum, Shandan County Museum, Foshan Museum and other museums was officially opened at the Guangdong Provincial Museum.
The exhibition is located in the special exhibition hall on the third floor and will be on display until July 17.
Due to its long age and long-term smoke and fire, most of the land and water paintings have disappeared, and not many people have survived and are still known. Originally curated by the Guangdong Provincial Museum, this exhibition selects 70 water and land paintings with considerable representative characteristics from museums across the country, and comprehensively presents them from the aspects of artistic background, artistic characteristics, artistic connotation and artistic protection and inheritance, providing a rare opportunity for the general audience to understand and study this unique cultural treasure and appreciate the artistic charm of water and land painting. The exhibition brings together 16 court water and land paintings such as water and land paintings of Baoning Temple in the Shun Dynasty of Tomorrow, water and land paintings painted by Empress Dowager Mingci, as well as folk water and land paintings in Shanxi, Gansu and other places, accounting for nearly 70% of precious cultural relics, including 11 first-class cultural relics.
Water and land painting is a condensation of traditional Chinese culture, the subject matter is both Confucianism, Buddhism and folk beliefs, and the collection of sacred and secular figures is a visual interpretation of the tradition of Chinese culture to talk about human morality and rebirth and death. Artistically, the water and land painting brush is heavy, the color is gorgeous, magnificent, magnificent, has a strong visual impact, contains a unique oriental aesthetic connotation, highlights the profoundness of the traditional painting art of the mainland, and its color application method is particularly worthy of study and cherishing by Chinese contemporary art.
The Capital Museum has a collection of more than 350 ming and qing dynasty water and land paintings, of which the works painted by Empress Dowager Cisheng in the Wanli period are particularly exquisite. This exhibition will exhibit a number of paintings of water and land painted by the Empress Dowager Cisheng, such as the "Portrait of Marshal Guan".
Shanxi has a rich stock of water and land paintings, and the Shanxi Museum now has more than 400 water and land paintings of Baoning Temple and the Ming and Qing dynasties in Taiyue District. Among them, the water and land paintings of Baoning Temple are the "edicts" of the Ming Dynasty court, which are particularly special in the water and land paintings of the Ming and Qing dynasties. This exhibition exhibits a total of 36 shanxi water and land paintings, including 11 water and land paintings of Baoning Temple, all of which are first-class cultural relics, with elegant styles, changeable compositions, complete techniques, in addition to religious figures, truly reproducing the customs and worlds of Ming Dynasty society, which can be called one of the best in China's existing water and land paintings.
Gansu, as the main collection place of water and land paintings, is the most concentrated in the Hexi region. Hexi water and land paintings are generally painted by local folk painters, but their skills are superb, and there are many similarities with the shape and style of Dunhuang murals. Because of its mobility, it is called "movable Dunhuang murals". The exhibition will feature nearly 20 land and water paintings from Gansu, among which a number of land and water paintings painted using the ink rubbing technique are unique and rare.
In addition, a number of related paintings from the Foshan area, as well as related cultural relics collected by the Guangdong Provincial Museum, were also unveiled in the exhibition.
