At the end of last year, ZTE Motor's first domestic full-size Picavis 1949 was officially listed, opening the full-size era of domestic pickup trucks. This independent pickup truck brand born in 1949, as the founder of China's light vehicles, has created many firsts in the field of light commercial vehicles in the past 73 years, developed China's first four-wheel light truck car, independently developed the first domestic pickup truck, the first diesel pickup truck, the first off-road pickup truck, and now the first full-size domestic pickup truck, ZTE Automobile, which has been very low-key, has been leading the progress of its own brand pickup trucks.
When it first went on the market a few years ago, I had already test-driven the 2.3T diesel-powered ZTE 1949 commercial version, and this time I had a test drive experience for the passenger version equipped with 2.0T+8AT. The completely different powertrain and rear suspension structure have a distinctly different feel in the driver's car, and this passenger version of the Weishi 1949 is definitely a car that can make you change the perception of traditional pickup trucks.
Static experience section:
Let's take a look at the static part before we open it. Although I have experienced the real car of Weishi 1949 up close many times, every time I come to the real car, I will still feel the huge visual impact of its appearance. As the first full-size pickup truck in China, Weishi 1949 is not only an advantage in size, but also its shape is very shocking.
The front part of the new car is not only full of shape, but also very muscular, and the multiple ridge lines on the cover and the transition between the folding angle between the cover and the fenders make it have the feeling of "supporting up" and preparing for the momentum. The front face adopts a shape known as the aesthetic of lion bionic design, which is very powerful and domineering, giving people a proud feeling.
In terms of size, the Weishi 1949 passenger version has a length, width and height of 5393×2045×1965mm, a wheelbase of 3230mm, and a ground clearance of 240mm. In addition to the appearance of the large body is very strong, close to 2 meters high, so that you feel the tall sitting posture after getting on the car, the overlook of the surrounding ordinary cars will bring you a great sense of superiority.
From the side, this passenger version is more capable, and the difference from the commercial version is mainly in the length of the cargo box. In terms of detailing, the large black wheel eyebrows, rearview mirror shell and the loading and exit pedals all echo the front face, and there is also a rib line decoration in the upper part of the cargo box that echoes the front fenders, creating a strong sense of power.
The tail styling is also impressive, with the tailgate decorated with multiple raised three-dimensional rib lines, and also using a black skid plate decoration, which is not only practical but also adds layering. The contour of the taillights and the body is also a three-dimensional bump shape, which has a good sense of refinement. The rear bar is wide and stout, and the test drive of this car is equipped with a trailer hook, this Weishi 1949 is qualified to be a trailer, allowing a towing mass of 3 tons.
In the interior part, this Weishi 1949 can be said to have fully realized the design style of passengerization, including the shape and materials are no longer the rough image of the traditional tool pickup truck. The center console's middle panel is decorated with a soft leather wrap, while the top part is made of hard plastic. The stitching effect, chrome-plated material and mood lighting all give the interior a good sense of grade and refinement.
In terms of configuration, this Weishi 1949 passenger version is also on par with the passenger car, the configuration is basically full, such as adaptive cruise system, panoramic image, LCD dashboard, keyless entry, one-button start, seat power adjustment + seat heating, automatic headlights and induction wipers can be provided.
In terms of space, the front row is no problem at all. Compared to the Ford F150LTD I drove before, the rear space is better, and the lateral space is basically the same, only the longitudinal space of the legs is a little smaller. The rear also provides air conditioning outlets, as well as a 220V power connector and a USB port.
Dynamic Performance:
This Weishi 1949 passenger version is equipped with a combination of 2.0T gasoline + 8AT, and there are some worries about its power performance before the test drive, after all, the maintenance quality of this Weishi 1949 passenger version is 1960kg, and even if the single driving weight is easily more than 2 tons. After actually opening it, it completely dispelled the concerns.
With a maximum power of 197 hp and a maximum torque of 360 Nm, this 2.0T petrol engine is handy for everyday road driving, getting the power you want, whether it's starting or accelerating midway. The entire acceleration process is very linear, the depth of the soles of the feet is consistent with the actual speed feedback, and the power is also within your expectations when overtaking.
The 8AT gearbox from ZF performed very well, and the upshift process was basically not felt, only slightly aware of the downshift. In addition to the smoothness, and the upshift is also very positive, during the test drive, driving on the ordinary road, about 73 kilometers per hour can be upgraded to 8 gears, which will be very friendly to fuel economy.
The fuel consumption is indeed unexpected, after more than 60 kilometers of provincial roads and a steep non-paved mountain road driving, the surface fuel consumption is 9.5L 100 kilometers, which is better than some medium and large SUV performance.
Steering feel part, and the last test drive of the commercial version of the hydraulic boost is different, this passenger version of the model is the use of electric power steering, steering feel more smooth heel, but also a completely passenger tuning, with the power of the heel, driving up completely do not feel that this is a large full-size pickup truck.
In addition to the daily road, this time it also drove the Weishi 1949 passenger version up the mountain. The mountain road is actually only a temporary gravel road opened when the power generation windmill was installed a few years ago, not only steep, but also after years of wind and rain erosion, many ravines and large stones, both sides or sides are cliffs, very testing the power and passability of the car, and the test drive of this car is a two-wheel drive version. In actual experience, this engine has no problem with power response, and the transmission can well understand the driving intention, can actively downshift to improve the speed and strengthen the torque output, with excellent power performance and 240mm ground clearance, large approach angle and departure angle, and the help of the 360-degree imaging system, smoothly reach the top. Therefore, we are more looking forward to the off-road capabilities of the 4WD model.
Chassis that can change the perception of pickup comfort:
In the chassis part, the impression of the pickup truck chassis before this is hard and bumpy, including the Ford F150LTD over the speed bump that has been opened before using the rear suspension of leaf springs. This Weishi 1949 passenger version uses a five-link integral bridge and coil spring rear suspension structure with lateral stabilizer bars. In the ordinary road performance is calm, in the non-paved road and large potholed mountain road will not have the steel plate suspension model of the horizontal swing and jumping phenomenon, there will still be a more stable body posture, the tire transmission feedback has a good toughness, in the speed bump when the obvious feeling of the chassis slightly Q elastic, without turbulence and trembling.
The sound insulation performance of this Weishi 1949 passenger version is also very good, and the engine shake cannot be felt under idling conditions, and it can reach the level of 150,000 class cars after driving.
After a short test drive experience, the performance of this Weishi 1949 passenger version in terms of configuration, space, chassis, sound insulation and other aspects is in line with the positioning of its passenger version, making me feel that I can finally talk about comfort with the pickup truck. In addition, it can also walk the road that cars and SUVs can't go, and can do the work that cars and SUVs can't do, which is really more practical than cars and SUVs.
Write at the end:
It is reported that the "General Technical Conditions for Multi-purpose Trucks" formulated for pickup trucks will be officially implemented on May 1 this year, although the new regulations still cannot change the current truck category of pickup trucks, but this has already provided a technical standard for the redefinition of pickup trucks, that is, the definition of possible pickup truck passenger car attributes in the future. At least from the actual performance of this Weishi 1949 passenger version, it is true that it is no longer possible to cut a one-size-fits-all pickup truck, and it is time to change the perception of pickup trucks.
