According to foreign media macrumors, the discovery of an unreleased Mac mini in the code of the latest Studio Display firmware adds to rumors that Apple is developing an updated Mac mini that may debut sometime this year.
Developer Steve Troughton-Smith revealed on foreign social platforms that references to "Macmini10,1" have been found in Studio Display's iOS 15.4. This model identifier does not match any existing released Mac mini and could be the model ID of the rumored upcoming Mac mini.
Earlier rumors suggested that Apple planned to release a new high-end Mac mini to replace the Intel-based model. However, rumors about whether the upcoming Mac mini is low-end or high-end are a bit unclear.
Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple may plan to release a new low-end Mac mini that replaces the M1 model in the current product line with an "M2" Apple silicon chip, while retaining plans for next year's high-end model.
