Yesterday, the NBA sent news that the Denver Nuggets will send Jokic a five-year, $260 million (270 million in five years) super-maximum salary contract in July.
If successfully concluded, this contract will surpass Alphabet Brother's 5-year 228 million contract and become the most expensive contract in NBA history.
In recent years, the reason why player salaries have risen and there have been frequent historical contracts is inseparable from the NBA's growing number of sponsors. The maximum salary contract is no longer as rare as before.
So why is Jokic the owner of the most expensive contract in NBA history, and what is worth it?
Nikola Jokic is a post-90s guy born in Serbia in 1995 and currently plays for the Denver Nuggets in the American Professional Basketball League. The 41st overall pick in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft was selected by the Denver Nuggets. Jokic was elected regular season MVP for two consecutive seasons in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons, three times selected to the NBA First All-Nations Team, and four NBA All-Star Games (2 starts, 2 benches) and so on.
This season, Jokic's performance can be described as "god under the gods". In the regular season, Jokic averaged 27 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists per game, shooting 58.3% from the field. He is the first Serbian player in the NBA to win consecutive MVP.
So, this contract is still well deserved for Jokic. For the Nuggets, after successfully renewing their contract with Jokic, plus Murray and Porter, it is expected to impact the NBA championship next season.
