From December 31, 2019 to January 12, 2020, with the strong support of the National Film Administration, the 12th EU Film Festival Shenzhen Station, hosted by the China Film Archive and the EU Delegation in China, will screen 29 EU film masterpieces at the Shenzhen Broadway Film Center. This year, the EU Film Festival has successively exhibited more than 30 excellent films in seven cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Jinan, Chengdu, Shenzhen and Changsha, and held more than 200 screenings, bringing a feast of food and culture to film fans.
Eu Ambassador to China Yu Bai said: "Our goal is not only to let the audience enjoy some memorable films, but also to let people understand the diverse cultures, histories and social events of the various countries of the European Union. To this end, the EU Film Festival and the 28 member states of the European Union have worked closely to bring the best and most distinctive European films to the audience. ”
"Sanatorium in the Sand Age" kicked off the prelude to the Shenzhen Film Festival
This year's EU Film Festival Shenzhen kicked off with Wojciech Has's "Nursing Home in the Mirror of Sand". The film tells the story of Joseph riding a dilapidated train to a desolate and lonely distant place to visit his dying father. In nursing homes, the order of time is disrupted. The protagonist and his father are completely lost in the past and the present, the reality and the mirage, the memory and the illusion, the complex intertwining, the dense and entangled disorder of the world, and embark on a strange surreal adventure.
The Polish film received numerous accolades after its debut in the main competition section after its debut at the 26th Cannes Film Festival in 1973, and the film won the Grand Jury Prize, becoming a masterpiece of modernist literature.
It includes the main competitions of the three major european film festivals, showing the integration of multinational cultures
This year's EU Film Festival pays more attention to the theme of the film from the perspective of film selection, and launches five major units: "Social People", "Fantasy Teenager", "Memories of Summer", "Laughter" and "Pluralistic World". Among them, the "Multiverse World" section was selected for a number of multinational co-productions, showing the characteristics of the integration of Europe and other countries. In addition to the 2019 new films selected as usual, representing various EU member states, the organizing committee also carefully selected several classic films that have left their names in film history, showing the rich humanistic customs of Europe and comprehensively presenting the style of film art.
Stronger than in previous years, this year's EU Film Festival includes not only important European award-winning works from this year's Cannes Film Festival and Berlin Film Festival, but also a selection of outstanding works from the Venice Film Festival, which just ended in September. Among the 33 works, the number of new films in the main competition of the three major European film festivals reached 10. These include "Young Ahmed", which won the Cannes Best Director Award, "Little Joe" for best actress, "Out and Out stealing horses" at the Berlin Film Festival, "Victory of the World", which won the Venice Film Festival's post-film award, "La Gomera", "Must Be Heaven", "Traitor", "Painted Bird", which won international media praise, and Cannes Double Palme d'Or winner Ken Lodge's new work "Sorry, We Missed You".
In line with the principle of showing the historical heritage of European cinema and the spirit of the times, this eu film festival strives for balance in the selection of films. Seven film history classics will lead fans to relive the major contributions of European films: the Czech version of Detective Poirot's "Adele Has Not Eaten Dinner", the sequel to the first Estonian film history "Spring", "Summer", the winner of the 26th Cannes Film Festival Jury Award" "The Sanatorium in the Mirror of Sand", the Eastern European magic realism classic "The Patent Leather Boots of the Unknown Soldier", the Oscar-nominated "Dreamcatcher", the Spanish unpopular poetic work "South" and the children's film masterpiece "Lone Wolf". At the same time, the organizers also selected the newcomer masterpieces that have been outstanding in the parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival: the brain-opening "Room 212", the Bollywood-style "Orphanage", the absurd black comedy "Deerskin", the deep style "Orig", the stunning Cannes Fibisi Award winner "The Tall Man", and the special exhibition "Family Romance Co., Ltd." by the German film master Herzog. The films were carefully selected by the European Union Film Festival, the National Film Boards of European Countries, and major film distribution companies in Europe and China.
