Directly hit the master's student in the "chicken farm"
Nanfang Daily News (Reporter/Chen Fangting, Wu Shaomin, Intern/Liu Xinlei) Shen Yizi's day began with the sound of chickens chirping. At 7 o'clock on April 27, the mist of The Shimen Chicken Farm of Zhuhai Yuhe Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Co., Ltd. dissipated, and 180 70-day-old jute chickens were boxed and moved out of the coop to wait for "slaughter determination".
Yuhe Agriculture and Animal Husbandry is one of the largest standardized poultry production bases in Zhuhai, and the measurement target of the day is the new breed of Yuhe "No. 2 Chicken", which is the key for enterprises to open the national market. Shen Yizi is a first-year graduate student of animal husbandry in the College of Animal Science of South China Agricultural University, and also a liaison for school-enterprise cooperation between Huanong and Yuhe Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. From undergraduate to graduate school, running at both ends of the chicken farm and school is the norm of his study life.
On this special day, Shen Yizi and more than 20 animal science students who came from the school to complete the slaughtering and measuring process. At 8 a.m., the measurement work began—
Shen Yizi's classmate Teng Hui grabbed the root of the chicken wing with one hand, cut a small opening in the chicken neck, drained the blood and then boiled the water and faded the hair, and the "killing chicken" technique of lightly driving the road was no less than that of the chef with decades of experience; Chao Xiaohuan and other classmates spread white cloth and plastic film on the long table of the canteen, holding blades, vernier calipers, and electronic scales, stripping the head, claws, and internal organs of the slaughtered body one by one, and the measurement records included 11 measurement indicators such as thick subcutaneous fat and wide intermuscular fat, just like the surgeon on the operating table...
The busy figure of Huanong students, Chen Xufeng, the person in charge of Yuhe Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, is no stranger. "The technical strength of the chicken farm itself is limited, after cooperation with Huanong, the quality of chicken seedlings has been improved, the selection and breeding efficiency has been improved, the market recognition has been greatly improved, and the unit price of chicken seedlings can be increased by 0.2 to 0.3 yuan compared with the normal market price." Chen Xufeng was full of expectations.
Theory and practice are an indispensable part of animal science professional research, so as long as the teachers and students of the college have time, they will run to the countryside and enterprises. "As early as 27 years ago, Huanong College of Animal Science opened the door to cooperation with front-line agricultural enterprises and schools." Zhang Xiquan, a professor at Huanong College of Animal Science, recalled that a large number of Huanong teachers and students took root in the front line of the industry and dedicated their learning far from the city center to support the development of agricultural enterprises and help rural revitalization. The combination of theory and practice has led to a series of research results that have led tens of thousands of farmers to become rich.
Among them, in 2015, the practical teaching base of Huanong University students and the key laboratory base of chicken genetic breeding and reproduction of the Ministry of Agriculture were unveiled in Yuhe Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, and the Shimen Chicken Farm has become another "classroom" for teachers and students of Huanong, and students often go deep into the chicken coop to open up and consult for enterprise breeding, breeding, and development of new varieties (new supporting departments).
"Graduate students and doctoral students are not just sitting in the 'white coat' of the laboratory, but also should write their papers on the land of southern Guangdong and apply the knowledge they have learned to the development of enterprises." Shen Yizi firmly said that it is very hard to do agriculture, but it needs people to do it, and it is more necessary for generations of top-notch innovative talents to devote themselves to the development of agricultural modernization, realize their own value, create benefits for enterprises, and contribute to society.
