In that year, Gao Shulan entered the Beijing Erqi Locomotive Factory of the Ministry of Railways and became an ordinary worker; in that era, both workers and peasants, their status was relatively high, as long as they were willing to work hard and made achievements, they might be rated as model workers, and they could also participate in the party congress, and many advanced representatives of the workers' and peasants' class were even elected as members of the Central Committee.
Gao Shulan was the same, she became a worker she worked hard and showed great enthusiasm, won the recognition of the organization and factory leaders, not only approved her to join the party, but also promoted him to the secretary of the workshop party branch, in 1973, Gao Shulan became the deputy director of the labor union of the Erqi Locomotive Factory, and Gao Shulan also participated in the party's "Ten Congress" and was elected as an alternate member of the Central Committee.
After that, Gao Shulan's status continued to rise, first becoming the deputy secretary of the party committee of Beijing Erqi Locomotive Factory, and then becoming a cadre of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, and in 1975 entered the Central Organization Department as the deputy head of the core group of the Central Organization Department, in October 1976, after the "Gang of Four" was crushed, Gao Shulan became the deputy director of the Central Organization Department, becoming one of the few female deputy ministers of the Central Organization Department since the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Unexpectedly, Gao Shulan at that time, together with Minister Guo Yufeng, still implemented the "left" line mistakes, refused to redress unjust, false and wrong cases, and the grievances of some old cadres were not upheld for a long time, which seriously hindered the development of the campaign to expose and criticize Guo Yufeng. On December 10, 1977, the Central Committee officially appointed Hu Yaobang as head of the Central Organization Department and removed Gao Shulan from the post of deputy head of the Central Organization Department.
In the following two decades, Gao Shulan successively served as the deputy director of the residential sanitation department, the secretary of the hospital's party branch, and the director of the family management committee, and gradually lived an ordinary life after retirement.
Looking back, we can't help but think deeply about Gao Shulan. Although she was criticized by old cadres during her tenure as deputy head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, she still adhered to her position and beliefs, always believed that she was not wrong, and refused to self-check and criticize. However, recalling that turbulent era, when the whole country was working hard to get rid of the shadow of the "Gang of Four", the Central Organization Department, as the organizer and coordinator, should lead the entire country's exposé and criticism campaign with the correct position and action. The erroneous line of Guo Yufeng and Gao Shulan seriously hindered the normal development of the movement, made it difficult to redress the grievances of some old cadres, and made it difficult for the whole society to reflect and rebuild.
