As a female graduate student, I have been sharing an apartment with a roommate for the past few months. Although we didn't have a particularly close relationship, we got along fairly well without too many contradictions. However, something recently has made me question her hygiene habits greatly.
First of all, her boyfriend often comes to our apartment. Although this was not a problem, his presence caused some inconvenience to the whole apartment. Whenever they are together, they seem to forget that they don't live alone. They often talk and laugh loudly in the middle of the night, and from time to time they make some strange noises. Although I tried to remind them to be quiet, they always chose to ignore my requests.
To make matters worse, every time he left, the whole apartment became a mess. He doesn't seem to realize that he should also be responsible for keeping common areas clean. He would litter toilet paper everywhere, whether in the bathroom or in the living room. It made me feel very sick and uncomfortable. I once mentioned this to my roommate, but she just smiled awkwardly and didn't do anything to fix it.
Even more shocking, I often saw his dirty underwear hanging from the hook in the bathroom and never washed. Not only did this make me feel very sick, but it also filled the entire restroom with an unpleasant stench. I couldn't understand why he would do that, he could have put them in the washing machine. I discussed the issue with my roommate again, but she just promised to talk to him without taking any real action.
This went on for months and I felt like I had reached my limit. I didn't want to continue to endure this unhygienic environment, so I decided to take action. I wrote a letter to the caretaker of the floor detailing what happened and asking them to take steps to fix the problem. The caretaker was very positive about my feedback and said that he would have a conversation with his roommate to solve this problem.
A few days later, the roommate finally realized the seriousness of the problem and began to take cleaning actions. She helped clean up common areas and put her boyfriend's panties into the washing machine. Nevertheless, I was very disappointed with her negativity and delayed resolution of the problem. As an adult, she should be aware of the impact her actions have on others and take timely steps to address the problem.
This experience made me cherish a clean and hygienic environment even more. I realized that sharing accommodation with others is not easy, and we need to respect and care for each other. One person's actions directly affect the quality of life of others, so each of us has a responsibility to create a comfortable and clean environment.
Finally, I hope the experience will inspire others, especially those who share apartments or student dormitories with roommates. We should care and respect each other, actively solve problems, and create a harmonious environment for coexistence. Only in this way can we enjoy a clean, tidy and comfortable living space together.
