In the early morning of October 18, a wild Asian elephant strolled onto the Silan Expressway and took a leisurely "stroll" on the Nam Bang River section of the Silan Expressway. The Yunnan Traffic Investment Pu'er Management Office immediately activated the emergency plan, and cooperated with the Pu'er Traffic Police and other relevant departments to open the safety "escort" mode.
"Since this section of the road belongs to the area with frequent elephant activities, the Pu'er Management Office has set up a number of video monitoring equipment, elephant passage reminder signs, and elephant protective fences in this section. At the same time, it has also established a multi-party joint logistics mechanism with elephant monitoring stations, traffic police and other departments to strengthen video patrols along the route on a daily basis. Due to the different routes of each elephant, the emergency command center immediately activates the emergency plan after the elephant is found, notifies the relevant departments and adjacent toll stations, and immediately intercepts the vehicle to ensure the safety of passing vehicles. After a multi-party joint treatment, the elephant got off the highway at 1:05 a.m., and the highway traffic returned to normal. The person in charge of the emergency command center of the Pu'er Management Office of Yunnan Jiaotou said.
