According to the Associated Press, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was convicted of "kneeling to kill" African American man George Floyd, was stabbed and seriously injured while serving a prison sentence on the 24th.
The incident took place at a federal correctional facility in Tucson, Arizona, USA, and the report said that it is a medium-security prison that has been plagued by security breaches and staffing shortages. Chauvin was stabbed in serious condition by another prisoner serving a prison sentence, the source did not give specific details of the attack.

In a statement, prison administration confirmed that a prisoner was attacked around 12:30 p.m. local time on Friday, after which correctional facility staff "contained" the incident and took "life-saving measures", and the injured were then taken to the hospital for further treatment. The incident has been reported to the FBI, and family visits at the correctional facility have been suspended.
Chauvin's stabbing is the second high-profile assault on federal prisoners in the past five months, the report said. In July, Larry Nassar, a former team doctor for the U.S. gymnastics team who had sexually assaulted several U.S. gymnasts, was stabbed by a fellow inmate at a federal prison in Florida.
In 2020, George Floyd, an African-American man, was put on the back of his neck with a knee by white police officer Drake Chauvin (pictured below), and Floyd pleaded several times, saying he "couldn't breathe" and eventually died. The video of the incident sparked global attention and mass protests in the United States. In July 2022, Chauvin was sentenced to 21 years in prison.
