On December 19, 2023 local time, the Asian Sailing Championships and the Asian Qualifying Tournament for the Paris Olympics ended in Pattaya, Thailand. Chinese sailing and windsurfing athletes fought bravely in the competition, won 5 championships, and qualified for the Paris Olympics in 5 small events in one fell swoop. The national sailing and windsurfing team has qualified for the Paris Olympics nine times, the highest number of Olympic qualifications from overseas participants.
The Asian Championships and the Asian Qualifying Tournament for the Paris Olympics will have a total of 6 Olympic levels, and a total of 8 Olympic qualifications will be issued. After several rounds of fierce competition, in the end, China's Xu Ming/Tu Yahan won the mixed 470 class sailing championship, Wen Zaiding/Liu Tian won the men's 49-person fast boat championship, Hu Xiaoyu/Shan Mengyuan won the women's 49-person fast boat championship, Mak Huicong/Chen Linlin won the mixed Nokara 17-class catamaran championship, and Gu Min won the women's Elka 6-person single boat championship.
At the World Championships in The Hague in August this year, Yan Zheng, Chen Jingle and Huang Qibin from the Shanghai team respectively qualified for the Paris Olympics in three events: women's hydrofoil, women's hydrofoil kiteboard and men's hydrofoil kiteboard. In the subsequent Hangzhou Asian Games, Bi Kun qualified for the men's hydrofoil windsurfing Paris Olympics for the national sailing and windsurfing team. So far, the national sailing and windsurfing team has qualified for the Paris Olympics nine times.
On December 20, each group of the national sailing and windsurfing team will return to China and go to Shanwei, Guangdong Province for the first time to prepare for the Paris Olympic Games.
