The purpose is to let the outside world know that China also has a bottom line, and there is a corresponding price to be paid for endlessly challenging China's principles.
China's new energy vehicles have now developed from a blank to a highly competitive industry, in addition to gaining many "fans" in China, but also exported to many overseas countries.
However, "there are many people who are popular", and the same is true for cars, and the new energy vehicles exported by the mainland are popular abroad, but also have been valued by some countries. They believe that China is now growing faster than they expected, and if they don't do something about it, the market they occupied is likely to be seized by China.
The mainland has always competed with other countries under the principle of respecting fair trade, but it is considered a potential threat by the United States and other countries. The tariffs imposed on China's new energy vehicles this time are very much in line with the consistent style of the United States.
The European Union then said it planned to impose temporary tariffs of up to 38.1% on China's new energy vehicles in order to protect the development of local automobiles. Although this decision has not yet been officially implemented, there is not much time left before the date of implementation.
China reacted quickly, but instead of immediately retaliating by raising tariffs on EU car exports, China chose to first launch an anti-dumping investigation on EU agricultural exports: pork and dairy products. Some people speculate that China does not want to carry out a precise strike on the EU.
This is because trade between China and Europe involves many fields. The reason why China did not impose tariffs on EU vehicles is that although Germany is also a member of the European Union, it does not agree with the temporary tariffs imposed on China, but is deeply worried that such a move will have a negative impact on international trade.
China and Germany have in-depth cooperation in the automobile trade, but there is no contact in the import and export of pork. Spain has not only surpassed the United States and Brazil to become the country that imports the most pork on the mainland, but has also shown a high degree of support for the EU's proposal to impose tariffs on China.
China then chose to first conduct an anti-dumping investigation on pork exports from the EU, which is also a warning to Spain and other countries.
China's unreciprocal counterattack has aroused heated discussions in the international community, and many high-level officials in many countries are deeply worried about China's decision. China is a "valuable and important" market for the EU, and its annual trade with China brings important economic benefits to the EU.
And for China, substitutes for imported pork are not very scarce, compared to how to deal with large quantities of pork ears and other offal meat, which has become a difficult problem for EU countries. Due to differences in food culture, people in the EU are generally less tolerant of these cuts of pork.
In this regard, Spain first said that it would not have much impact on the second half of the year for a while, and then said: I hope that you can have room for negotiation between China and Europe.
The time of the anti-dumping investigation is generally about one year, and if the situation is special, it may be extended for half a year, that is to say, although the CCP has launched relevant investigations, Spain's imported pork will not be greatly affected for a while and a half, but in the long run, a trade war with China is a choice that will do more harm than good to Spain or the European Union.
While the EU covets China's trade market, it is also vainly trying to suppress China's emerging industries. This practice not only harms the interests of China and EU countries, but also tramples on the fairness of world trade.
Shouting the slogan of so-called "overcapacity" to encircle and block China's industry is not conducive to the development of local industries, but will affect the fairness of international trade and damage the image of the EU as a whole. At present, the EU has not yet made a new response to the imposition of temporary tariffs, and the future relationship between China and the EU depends on whether the EU can go astray.
Countries around the world now have close trade cooperation, and it would be a win-win situation if countries could benefit each other. If we fail to respect our partners and try to create trade barriers, we will end up reaping the consequences.
If things do get to the point of a trade war, China could counter the EU on multiple fronts in addition to pork and dairy. If the EU insists on a trade war with China, China will also put the protection of national interests first and respond accordingly to unfair trade practices.
