On June 25, on the occasion of the 37th "International Anti-Drug Day", the Luotian People's Court publicly pronounced judgments on two drug-related crimes, and sentenced the four defendants to fixed-term imprisonment ranging from three to 12 years and fines ranging from 10,000 yuan to 30,000 yuan respectively.
Case 1: Zhang's drug trafficking case
Between December 2022 and December 2023, defendant Zhang repeatedly sold a total of 225 methamphetamine tablets (commonly known as "hemp fruit") (about 20.25 grams) and methamphetamine (commonly known as "ice") totaling about 21.4 grams to others.
On December 8, 2023, the defendant Zhang was arrested by the police in the rental house where he lived, and 75 "hemp fruits" (7.11 grams in total) and 0.95 grams of "methamphetamine" were seized at the scene.
After defendant Zhang X arrived at the case, he truthfully confessed the facts of his crime and voluntarily pleaded guilty and accepted punishment.
In addition, on April 22, 2024, the defendant Zhang was sentenced to one year and four months in prison and fined RMB 8,000 by the Huangzhou District People's Court of Huanggang City for the crime of aiding information network criminal activities. The verdict is now in force.
After trial, the court convicted Zhang of drug trafficking in accordance with the law, sentenced him to 11 years and six months imprisonment and a fine of 10,000 yuan, and sentenced him to one year and four months imprisonment and a fine of 8,000 yuan for the previous crime, and decided to enforce the sentence of 12 years imprisonment and a fine of 18,000 yuan. Defendant Zhang's unlawful gains are to be recovered and turned over to the state treasury in accordance with law.
Case 2
Chen, Wang, and Pan
Drug trafficking and transportation cases
From November 2023 to January 2024, after the defendant Chen Moumou purchased the drug "hemp fruit" from Gan Moumou (handled in a separate case), he sold a total of 406 pills (about 38.16 grams) to the defendant Pan Moumou and others many times, during which Chen Moumou helped drug buyers transport drugs, collecting a total of 36,975 yuan in drug money and freight.
From December 2023 to January 2024, defendant Wang Moumou sold or used other people's delivery methods to sell 65 drug "hemp fruits" (about 6.11 grams) to Gan Moumou (handled in a separate case) on multiple occasions, and collected a total of 4,560 yuan in drug money.
From December 2023 to January 2024, after the defendant Pan Moumou purchased the drug "hemp fruit" from the defendant Chen, he sold a total of 97 pills (about 9.11 grams) to many people on several occasions, and collected a total of 9,700 yuan in drug money.
Defendants Chen, Wang, and Pan all truthfully confessed the facts of their crimes and voluntarily pleaded guilty and accepted punishment.
After trial, the court ruled that the defendant Chen Moumou was guilty of trafficking and transporting drugs, and sentenced him to eight years and nine months imprisonment and a fine of 30,000 yuan; Defendant Wang XX committed the crime of drug trafficking and was sentenced to seven years imprisonment and a fine of 30,000 yuan; Defendant Pan XX committed the crime of drug trafficking and was sentenced to three years imprisonment and a fine of 10,000 yuan. The unlawful gains of the three are to be recovered and turned over to the state treasury in accordance with law.
Anti-narcotics work has a bearing on the security of the country, the rise and fall of the nation, and the well-being of the people. The centralized verdict fully demonstrated the Luotian Court's "zero tolerance" attitude towards drug crimes and its firm determination to severely punish drug crimes in accordance with the law. Subsequently, the Luotian Court will continue to maintain a high-pressure posture against drug criminal activities, innovate and carry out various forms of anti-drug legal publicity and education, actively create a good atmosphere for the whole people to fight drugs, and effectively enhance the awareness and ability of the whole society to recognize, prevent and reject drugs, so as to create a safe and stable social environment and provide strong judicial guarantees for the protection of the people's physical and mental health and the safety of life and property.
