In my heart, the failure of Ideal MEGA has always been a mystery, some people say it's because of the shape, some people say it's because there are opponents in the dark.
But in fact, many people praise the shape of the ideal MEGA, at least I and the people around me think it looks good, at least it is out of the same design of Alpha. As for being hacked by opponents, I believe that Li Auto has not stopped being hacked since the day it was born.
So what is the reason for the failure of the ideal MEGA is still uncertain, is it too expensive, or the road of pure electric MPV is not at all?
On June 25, Geely's new brand LEVC released a super-large MPV called L380, which uses a 100KWh-140KWh battery pack as a drive module, with a CLTC range of up to 805KM.
The name L380 is obviously borrowing the Airbus A380 aircraft to position its own products, so the car's seat layout and space utilization are unprecedented in the field of electric MPVs.
In fact, the body size of the car is 5316 * 1999 * 1940mm, and the wheelbase is 3185mm. Both the body length and wheelbase are much shorter than the MEGA. However, the L380 can achieve an 8-seat layout, and the price is only 349,900-449,900 yuan. The entry-level is nearly 190,000 yuan cheaper than the MEGA.
It is estimated that Geely thinks that the reason for the failure of the ideal MEGA is that the price is too expensive. Therefore, this car is mainly cost-effective compared to MEGA.
In terms of configuration, the top-of-the-line 8-seat L380 priced at 449,900 yuan is on par with the ideal MEGA, and individual projects have their own winners and losers. For example, MEGA has more baking mode than L380, but L380 has more night vision function. So in terms of value for money, the L380 is definitely a complete winner.
So will the sales of the L380 definitely exceed that of the ideal MEGA? Of course, this will take time to verify, but I personally don't think that the final sales of the L380 will necessarily be much better than that of the MEGA. This is also due to the fact that the field of pure electric MPV violates the use scenario of long-distance commercial vehicles.
CLTC cruising range of 805KM, if fully loaded on the highway real endurance, can it reach 500KM full-time driver may not have this confidence, then a 140KWh battery pack MPV no matter how fast the fast fast charging, it is impossible to support the interprovincial long-distance of this car, even intercity long-distance is difficult to ensure round-trip endurance.
Such a large car, set up with 8 seats, can only complete the transfer task from the city to the airport, even if it is 349,900, its cost performance is far inferior to traditional fuel vehicles and hybrid MPVs.
Of course, there are exceptions, and that is NIO, a pure electric MPV that can support long-distance travel, and so far only NIO has had the opportunity to achieve. As of the end of May, NIO has deployed 2,420 battery swap stations across the country, and 5-minute battery swapping is the only solution to battery life anxiety for pure electric vehicles so far.
Therefore, if Geely LEVC wants to develop a new energy MPV, it is best to start with family attributes, because family MPVs will not have too many requirements for time management. But the business attribute MPV, maybe any leader will not wait for you at the charging column for 1 hour.
If Geely LEVC can continue to develop an L330 MPV with a body length of 4.9 meters and a wheelbase of 2.9 meters, the battery pack is 75KWh-100KWh, and the price will be from 250,000 to 350,000 yuan. The CLTC cruising range is 500KM-650KM, which should be able to steal many Xpeng X9 users. What do you think?
