The Mainland's measures to increase the duty-free allowance for baggage items for resident passengers entering Macao were announced yesterday (28 July), and the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) held a symposium this morning (29 October) to explain the relevant measures in detail to the industry, so that the industry can better understand and fully grasp the contents, seize the opportunities and make good use of the measures to benefit Macao.

Speaking at the forum, the Secretary for Economic and Technological Affairs, Mr Dai Kin-yip, said that the Central Government's measures to benefit Macao will help enhance the attractiveness of Mainland tourists to Macao for shopping and spending, and will have a positive effect on Macao's overall economic development. The EDIC will do a good job in publicizing the work so that the industry can fully grasp the content of the measures. In the future, the DSEDT will continue to work hand in hand with the industry to take multiple measures to optimize the business environment, attract customers and promote consumption, and at the same time assist SMEs in digital transformation and intelligent upgrading to enhance their competitiveness, and encourage the industry to make good use of measures to benefit Macao, so as to jointly promote the development of the community economy.

At the meeting, representatives of the industry welcomed the measures introduced by the Central Government to benefit Macao, and thanked the Central Government for its concern and support for Macao's economic development, believing that the measures will help promote the shopping and consumption of Mainland tourists visiting Macao, stimulate the retail market, revitalize the community economy, and inject new impetus into Macao's overall economic development. The industry will seize the opportunity to actively explore a wide range of products and services, and continuously improve the quality of products, so as to attract more Mainland visitors to spend and make good use of the Central Government's measures to benefit Macao.
