In the first month of 1963, inspired by the folk water bucket frozen ice lanterns, some people proposed: Can Harbin see ice lanterns on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month in the south? So there was the ice lantern garden party in Zhaolin Park. Over the course of four or five days, eight or nine hundred people used candles, oil lamps, and various molds to freeze out more than 1,000 ice lamps. At that time, Wu Naiguang, a student at Harbin Academy of Arts, and others were doing this half-snow and half-ice elephant.

On the first day of the first Ice Lantern Festival, 50,000 people came, and the original three-day exhibition was extended to six days, and a total of 250,000 people were received. By the second edition, the 45-day exhibition received more than 800,000 people. People used more than 500 cubic meters of natural ice in the Songhua River to make ice sculptures and ice buildings with electric light sources, and such reform and innovation are inseparable from one person, he is Wang Lisheng.
In 1964, Wang Lisheng and his assistant from the Harbin Institute of Urban Architecture conducted various physical performance experiments on the natural ice of the Songhua River, and after 840 sets of data comparison and 34 formulas, they came to a positive conclusion. Nearly 50 years later, in 2012, the state promulgated the "Technical Regulations for Ice and Snow Landscape Construction", and the initial data came from the summary and accumulation of Wang Lisheng and others.
People woke up the sleeping ice and snow with their ingenuity and industrious hands, so there was the first Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival in 1985, the Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Exposition in 1989, and the first Ice and Snow World in 2000. At the 2023 Ice Lantern Art Fair, people saw the classic snow sculpture "Vientiane Renewal" again.
The first Ice Lantern Parade used only forty or fifty cubic meters of ice to let the people of the "Cat Winter" out of their homes and stir up the cold winter. More than 60 years later, the world's largest ice and snow theme park, the 25th Harbin Ice and Snow World, has fulfilled the ice and snow dreams of more than 2.7 million Chinese and foreign tourists with 250,000 cubic meters of ice and snow. Travel through time and meet ice and snow. From Harbin to the whole province, from one season to four seasons, the charm of Longjiang ice and snow is unique and long-lasting, and the ice and snow culture of Longjiang is timeless and fresh.
