On June 25, the State Administration for Market Supervision issued an announcement on the implementation of compulsory product certification management for lithium-ion batteries for electric bicycles and chargers for electric bicycles. According to the announcement, the State Administration for Market Regulation decided to implement compulsory product certification (CCC certification) management for lithium-ion batteries for electric bicycles and chargers for electric bicycles.
1. From October 15, 2024, the designated certification body will begin to accept the CCC certification entrustment of lithium-ion batteries for electric bicycles and chargers for electric bicycles, and carry out CCC certification in accordance with the corresponding compulsory product certification implementation rules and applicable standards.
2. From November 1, 2025, lithium-ion batteries for electric bicycles and chargers for electric bicycles shall be certified by CCC and marked with CCC certification marks before they can be manufactured, sold, imported or used in other business activities.
In addition, the State Administration for Market Regulation has included single batteries (cells) and battery packs in the scope of CCC certification. It is required that each lithium battery must be marked with a safe service life, engraved with a permanent unique code of high temperature resistance (950 °C for half an hour), and it is forbidden to "echelon use" waste lithium batteries to electric bicycles, and to restrict the illegal assembly and modification of lithium batteries from the source.
