On the evening of the 16th local time, France Prime Minister Atal resigned and was approved by President Macron.
According to the official press release, Macron asked the current Atal government to continue to conduct day-to-day affairs until a new government is formed. The communiqué said that in order for this transitional period to "end as soon as possible", the mainstream parties should work together to find ways to serve France.

Speaking on a live television talk show that night, Attar said he hoped to find consensus in the National Assembly and transcend partisan differences. He further made it clear that he wanted to work with right-wing France Republicans and left-wing France Socialists. He also admitted that he would not become the next prime minister. Commenting on the current government's recent work, Attar said it would have two main objectives – to keep the country running and to protect France. He also spoke briefly about the Games, noting that France will welcome visitors from all over the world in a few days and that France must ensure that the Games are a success. Macron convened a cabinet meeting that day. Speaking at the conference, Attar thanked Macron for his trust and said that during his six months as prime minister, we "serve France with passion." The cabinet meeting lasted an hour and a half, and Attar was the last senior official to leave the meeting, appearing calm but not interacting with reporters on the spot. France's ruling party camp loses its relative majority in the 2024 parliamentary elections. Atal announced his resignation after the second round of voting in the July 7 election, but was not accepted by Macron at the time and was asked to stay in office temporarily. Analysts point out that the current government of Atal has effectively continued to function as a caretaker government, and that it has become limited in what it can do, mainly to deal with day-to-day affairs, especially to ensure the smooth running of the Paris Olympics, which will open on July 26. The current government cannot submit new draft laws to Parliament or make significant changes to existing policies unless there is an emergency. It is unclear when France's new government will be formed, and the political future in France is far from clear. The New Popular Front, a coalition of left-wing parties that won a relative majority in the parliamentary elections, has been unable to determine the prime minister of its camp, causing dissatisfaction among many politicians in the camp.
