On July 20, the China Eugenics Science Association held the 2024 International Summit Forum on Scientific Nutrition in Wuhan with the theme of "Scientific Evidence, Leading the Future". At the forum, the first domestic consensus on non-pharmacological intervention for functional dyspepsia syndrome in infants and young children (2024) (hereinafter referred to as the "consensus on non-pharmacological intervention for dyspepsia") released by the Chinese Journal of Pediatrics became the focus. The consensus brings together the opinions of more than 40 authoritative experts in pediatrics, pointing out that some hydrolyzed formulas with low lactose content are truly effective in relieving indigestion symptoms. As a representative of the partially hydrolyzed low lactose content formula, Mead Johnson Qinshu was highly affirmed by the participating experts.
It is reported that the International Summit Forum on Scientific Nutrition is an academic event in the field of pediatrics, and the forum is chaired by Professor Cai Wei, director of the Shanghai Institute of Pediatric Medicine, Professor Colin D. Rudolph, the world's top pediatric ·professor, Professor Gong Sitang of the Women and Children's Medical Center affiliated to Guangzhou Medical University, Professor Mao Meng of West China Second Hospital of Sichuan University, Professor Xu Chundi of Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Hu Songnian, researcher of the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, More than 200 well-known pediatric experts, hospital presidents and academic leaders from home and abroad, including associate researcher Wang Liming, gathered at the forum to share and exchange the latest cutting-edge findings and research results.
China's first consensus on non-pharmacological intervention for functional dyspepsia syndrome in infants and young children (2024)
Due to the immature development of the digestive system, infants and young children are prone to vomiting, crying, bloating, diarrhea, constipation and other indigestion symptoms, and cause many adverse effects on babies and families. Professor Gong Sitang of the Women and Children's Medical Center Affiliated to Guangzhou Medical University proposed to formulate a relevant diagnostic consensus as early as 2022, and he pointed out that data show that more than 50% of young babies have gastrointestinal discomfort symptoms. In order to improve the understanding of gastrointestinal disorders in infants and young children and standardize the clinical diagnosis, experts in the field of pediatric digestion in mainland China put forward the concept of "functional dyspepsia syndrome in infants and young children" (hereinafter referred to as "dyspepsia in infants") for the first time based on the current diagnosis and treatment status and China's national conditions, and formulated a corresponding diagnostic consensus in 2022. Its simplicity, memorization and ease of operation have been well received by clinicians.
In order to meet the management needs of clinicians for babies diagnosed with dyspepsia and provide targeted scientific solutions for babies and families, on the basis of the diagnostic consensus, the Chinese Journal of Pediatrics released the first domestic consensus on non-drug intervention for functional dyspepsia syndrome in infants and young children (2024) in June this year, which brought together the opinions and suggestions of 44 interdisciplinary authoritative experts including pediatric gastroenterology, child health care, and nutrition, focusing on Chinese infants and young children. In view of the five common functional dyspepsia symptoms, a scientific management plan for non-drug intervention was proposed. The publication of the two consensus is also a positive embodiment of the continuous exploration and innovation of domestic pediatric experts on the road of implementing precision medicine.
Professor Xu Chundi, the author of the consensus and professor of Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University, shared the results in detail at the forum, and pointed out that in the face of indigestion symptoms in infants and young children, parental health education and comfort, as well as scientific nutrition management are the cornerstones of diagnosis and treatment. Among them, scientific nutrition guidance can avoid unnecessary medication, "Parents should pay attention to compliant feeding, first adhere to breastfeeding, secondly, can choose partial hydrolyzed formula to relieve indigestion-related symptoms, for excessive crying, flatulence, increased frequency of bowel movements, loose stools infants can choose lactose-low or lactose-free formula." At present, clinical studies have confirmed that some hydrolyzed low-lactose content formulas can truly and effectively alleviate the symptoms caused by indigestion such as repeated crying, flatulence, milk leakage, and crying in babies within 24 hours. In the "Consensus on Non-drug Intervention for Indigestion", the role of some hydrolyzed low-lactose formulas in relieving digestive discomfort in infants and young children has been recognized by more than 40 pediatric experts.
Professor Xu Chundi from Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University shared the results of the "Consensus on Non-drug Intervention for Indigestion".
Professor Wang Liming, an associate researcher at the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, believes that the release of the "Consensus on Non-drug Intervention for Indigestion" is of great significance, and the intervention opinions have a scientific basis, "Taking Mead Johnson Qinshu partially hydrolyzed low lactose content formula as an example, because the formula contains 'pre-digested' protein, compared with the whole protein formula, it can make the stomach of infants and young children empty faster, so it can effectively relieve the problems of crying, spitting up, and irritability caused by digestive discomfort." At the same time, low levels of lactose can also reduce intestinal flatulence caused by lactose indigestion, and retaining some lactose can provide the baby with the benefits of lactose. Through such a nutritional intervention, it not only relieves the baby's digestive problems, reduces the anxiety of parents, but also reduces unnecessary drug use. This is why the Consensus on Non-pharmacological Interventions for Indigestion recommends the use of partially hydrolyzed formulas with low lactose content to intervene in indigestion in infants and young children. ”
Professor Wang Liming, associate researcher of the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, shared the principle of the effectiveness of Mead Johnson's Qinshu formula
As a leader in protein hydrolysis formulations, Mead Johnson has 10 invention patents in 9 countries, and has been focusing on providing scientific and nutritious solutions for babies with digestive discomfort and immature stomach. The newly upgraded new national standard Mead Johnson Qinshu series uses unique PHP hydrolysis technology to hydrolyze milk protein macromolecules into "micro" protein molecules that are 10 times smaller, with comfortable lactose, which is easier to digest and relieve the baby's tummy discomfort.
In order to further support the medical community to improve the level of diagnosis and treatment, at this forum, Mead Johnson China and the China Eugenics Science Association announced the launch of the continuing education project on the comprehensive management of special feeding needs of infants and young children, and carried out the medical education activities of the "Consensus on Non-drug Intervention for Functional Dyspepsia Syndromes in Infants and Young Children (2024)", to promote the improvement of clinical diagnosis and treatment management technology for babies with special feeding needs, and to work with all walks of life to bring a better start to life for babies with special needs.
It is reported that Mead Johnson China has been supporting the establishment of a pediatric medical professional exchange platform for many years.
