There is an interesting discussion on social media: why do more and more people like to travel by car, knowing that driving long distances is tiring?
I think it depends on how you define road trips. Not to mention overseas, from a national perspective, whether it is Xinjiang, Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Qinghai or Yunnan, I have traveled many times by car.
The most recent self-driving trip was to Shennongjia in Hubei. But the self-driving trip I'm talking about may be different from what many friends think about self-driving trips.
Most of the time I get to my destination by plane or high-speed train, and then rent a car to drive myself.
After all, it takes dozens of hours to travel from Beijing to the border provinces, or other provinces, and the round-trip has to be multiplied by two, so that it will take several days to get out.
Wouldn't it be better to put this time on the quickest way to travel and use it on your daily trip?
Self-driving travel is indeed the most efficient and enjoyable way to travel in the process.
If you are with a group, then you can't go to many places, and you need to come according to the itinerary of the group.
However, if you do not drive and rely solely on public transportation, the relative limitations are also relatively large. We have a lot of attractions, or many destinations, and we need to go according to its mode of transportation.
If there is no convenient public transportation, whether it is a chartered car or a taxi, it is not only inconvenient, but also the cost will rise. Relatively speaking, renting a car and driving is a more compromised way.
Take Shennongjia as an example, although this place is very famous, it is not familiar to most tourists. To put it bluntly, the transportation is very inconvenient.
There is an airport in Shennongjia, located in Hongping Town, but this airport is open to traffic only a few times a day, and there are no flights a week. Moreover, there are only three cities that are open to navigation, and there are no direct flights to Beijing.
In addition, if there are bad weather conditions, it will not be possible to land normally. What's the bottom line? It is also not easy to get from the airport to the respective town or tourist destination.
Let's talk about high-speed rail, although there is a high-speed rail station in Shennongjia, if you travel to Shennongjia, you must not get off at Shennongjia high-speed rail station, you must get off at Xingshan station.
Xingshan Station is a county belonging to Yichang City, Hubei Province, called Xingshan County. From here, you can pick up a car and drive, and you can enter several core attractions of Shennongjia in more than an hour.
But you think, if I drive directly from Beijing to Shennongjia, it will take at least four days on the road, why bother? The high-speed train can be reached directly in five hours, and then you can go by car.
Therefore, it is impossible to generalize when it comes to self-driving travel. From a purely tourist point of view, it is definitely the most convenient mode of transportation to reach the destination and then start driving.
Many of my friends will say that I can also go there on the way from home to my destination.
Although the truth is like this, on the one hand, if you play like this, you may not be interested in half of the fun.
A friend of mine said he was going to Xinjiang with me, and he drove from Beijing, but when he drove to Ningxia, he wanted to go home, and he was so tired. So in the end, I really had a lap in Xinjiang by myself.
Having said all this, I want to tell you that self-driving travel is indeed the most enjoyable and flexible mode of tour, but it should be noted that if you want to take a long-term self-driving tour, you also need to look at it according to your actual situation.
Don't waste your precious time on boring roads.
