Recently, the Jiangning Weaving Museum, located in Xuanwu District, Nanjing, has launched an immersive exhibition project called "Big Dream · Red Mansion". The project revolves around the classic IP of "Dream of Red Mansions", bringing together digital art, dance performances, interactive art and installation art to bring a new immersive experience to the audience.
Jointly built by the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Nanjing Cultural Investment Group and Wenduyun Digital Technology Co., Ltd., the immersive performance space of "Dream · Red Mansion" relies on the Jiangning Weaving Museum to create the country's first full-field marching close-up immersive experience project with the theme of Dream of Red Mansions in an international, digital and artistic way. Through the creative technique of immersive spatial narrative, the audience is led to dream from a first-person perspective, enter the illusory realm of Cao Xueqin's pen, walk through a 60-minute dream journey, and complete the weaving of dreams together.
The reporter learned that the entire space has created three immersive exhibition areas: the living room, the treasure and the fantasy realm. Here, the audience can "fall into a dream" from a first-person perspective, shuttle through the time and space of the rise and fall of Jiafu, and feel the love, hatred, joy, sorrow and joy between the characters of the Red Mansion. "Big Dream · Red Mansion" contains a total of 4 different story lines and 20 classic plots of the original book, which advance the narrative in a parallel and interspersed manner with multiple lines. Audiences can also freely choose the storyline and exploration path according to their personal preferences, explore the exhibition area at will, participate in interactive plots, and have 1V1 interactions with real NPCs (non-player characters). From interactive viewing to digital art, from scene puzzle solving to role-playing, the audience can experience the unique "Dream of Red Mansions".
It is reported that the main creative team of "Big Dream · Red Mansion" invited experts in the field of international immersive theater, and Connor Doyle, the main creative director of "Sleepless Nights", · as the conceptual design consultant of the project. In terms of costume design, it avoids the reproduction of the characters in the book, adopts a large number of embroidery on the basis of the Ming Dynasty costumes, chooses to fit the patterns of the characters for creation, and improves the silhouette foundation combined with dance technology, striving for the beauty of artistic conception at the same time, fully showing the luxury of aristocratic life, and making innovative improvements in space, stage art, multimedia and dance. After a year of meticulous creation, it integrates advanced technology and traditional oriental aesthetics, and brings multi-dimensional sensory experiences such as touch, smell, vision, taste, and hearing through different forms of artistic presentation, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in the scene and experience the emotional entanglements in the Red Mansion, with a stronger sense of ups and downs of fate and a stronger sense of interaction.
In recent years, based on its unique resource endowment, Xuanwu District has actively promoted the digital and immersive development of cultural and tourism products, and improved the system for promoting the deep integration of the real economy and the digital economy. As the country's first immersive exhibition and performance project with the theme of Dream of Red Mansions, "Big Dream · Red Mansion" not only disseminates the excellent traditional Chinese culture through innovative cultural tourism experiences, but also injects new vitality into Nanjing's night-time economy and cultural tourism market, and promotes economic transformation and upgrading.
As a new masterpiece of Jiangning Weaving Museum, "Big Dream · Red Mansion" has achieved the production of differentiated cultural tourism products in immersive formats while disseminating the excellent traditional Chinese culture, and innovating cultural tourism formats and consumption scenarios. Its unique immersive experience, advanced technology and profound cultural connotation are expected to become a benchmark product for immersive exhibitions and performances, and promote the deeper, wider and higher level of integration of Nanjing's cultural tourism.
