The temperature of education starts from the heart. In order to enrich the summer vacation life of rural children, cultivate their independent thinking and hands-on ability. On July 22, 2024, the first "Youth Meets Suiyang" National College Student Summer "Three Villages" and "Dawn Chunhui Rhythm Angel" Love Science Public Welfare Summer Camp was officially opened in the Central School of Kuankuan Town, Suiyang County.
At the opening ceremony, more than 50 children were full of anticipation and excitement on their faces. The person in charge of the summer camp said that he hoped that the children would cherish this rare opportunity, have the courage to explore, dare to challenge, and gain knowledge, friendship and growth in the summer camp.
It is worth mentioning that there is a special group of urban teenagers in this summer camp - urban teenagers actively participate in it as teaching assistant volunteers, and they quickly mingle with rural friends as soon as they enter the camp with enthusiasm and love. They will embark on a learning journey like no other in 5 days.
"Our summer camp was initiated by a group of Tsinghua alumni, and it was also the first time we went to Suiyang, hoping to bring something different to rural children, so that children can not only increase their knowledge, but more importantly, learn how to think, do, try and experience like scientists." Luo Bin, head of the Guizhou Tsinghua Alumni Association, said.
The curriculum of the summer camp focuses on water resources and environmental protection, and through vivid and interesting explanations, children can deeply understand the preciousness of water resources and the importance of environmental protection. At the same time, in order to cultivate children's scientific thinking and experimental skills, a series of rich and diverse experimental courses are carefully designed, so that children can operate experimental equipment by themselves, explore the mysteries of science in practice, and feel the charm of science.
In the first class, the teacher explained to the students the relevant knowledge of new energy, one of the scientific and technological civilizations of mankind, so that they had a preliminary understanding of this frontier field. Afterwards, the children were organized to make their own wind turbines, so that they could actively participate in them and collaborate with each other. When the children encountered difficulties in the experimental operation, the teaching assistant volunteers patiently answered the children's questions and guided them hand in hand, with encouragement and expectation in their eyes.
It is understood that the summer camp is a microcosm of the "Chinese Baby" public welfare project, which is a public welfare project initiated by a group of like-minded Tsinghua 88 alumni, committed to environmental protection and sustainable development of public welfare undertakings, in a low-cost and environmentally friendly way, to raise funds from the society, children's books, etc., for rural primary schools to build free computer classrooms and love book corners. At the same time, rural primary schools are encouraged to hold the "Chinese Baby" cultural festival to activate children's internal learning motivation, create a positive and sunny community culture of rural primary schools, and promote educational innovation in rural primary schools.
"I think this summer camp is very interesting, very meaningful, and the opportunity is also very rare, I can gain friendship in the summer camp, and I can also gain knowledge that I have not heard in the classroom, because there are many courses in the summer camp that we need to do, so it can also exercise my hands-on ability and enrich my summer life." Zhou Yanyan, a student at Kuankuan Town Central School, said.
The purpose of this summer camp is not only to impart knowledge, but also to sow the seeds of caring for the environment and pursuing science in the hearts of children, and stimulate their infinite longing and yearning for the future.
