Meta's upcoming AR glasses are likely to have appeared in Zuckerberg's shared images in February
Zuckerberg shared an image in February 2024 of a series of headsets and glasses prototypes on a tabletop. Recently, some foreign netizens posted that one of the glasses devices may be the first AR glasses that Meta will show at the Connect conference. This speculation was indirectly confirmed by Zuckerberg himself, who said in a follow-up post that he would share more information later this year.
This discovery, along with Zuckerberg's thread, sparked a heated discussion in the community, with many users believing that Zuckerberg had basically confirmed that the glasses device in the picture was the first AR glasses that Meta was about to demonstrate.
According to current news, Meta plans to officially unveil its first AR glasses at the Connect conference in 2024. According to reports, Meta's AR glasses have been in development for about 9 years and are very technologically advanced. It projects colorful, lifelike holographic images into the user's field of view, providing users with a digital experience that seamlessly connects with the real world.
Both Zuckerberg and Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth have given the AR glasses high marks. Bosworth even said: "In the field of consumer electronics, these AR glasses are undoubtedly the most cutting-edge products we humans have ever created." ”

Meta is accelerating the application for patents related to smart glasses
According to a recent report by Patentlyapple, Meta is speeding up the filing of patents related to smart glasses as much as possible. Last week, Meta filed two patents related to future AR smart glasses, with more likely to be revealed in the future.
One of the patents is titled "Mechanism for Adjusting the Lens Wheelbase in VR/AR Glasses". The patent abstract describes that the linear actuating mechanism comprises a first threaded rod that can be rotatably fixed to the frame, an actuator mechanically coupled to the first threaded rod and configured to rotate it, a first nut screwed onto the first threaded rod and attached to the first eyecup that is configured to accommodate the first optical elements for the head-mounted display, and a guide rail on the frame configured to support the first eyecup as it moves with the first nut.
Another patent, called "Hot Hinge System", is a method and system for conducting heat energy between two hinged parts of an electrical device. In the example, the method employs a hot hinge system that is configured to transmit or propagate heat energy through mechanical joints or hinges in the electronics, as well as optional electrical energy. Thermal hinges can include thermally conductive active hinges, complementary and/or mated thermal interface components, or a combination of both.

谷歌前高管泼冷水:不要对Google Glass 2抱太大希望
Recently, Google's intention to acquire a stake in Essilor Luxottica has sparked a lot of speculation that Google may want to restart the AR smart glasses project. But a former senior head of the department who was in charge of the development of Google's XR/AR device poured cold water on Google's idea of reviving AR smart glasses in an interview with media outlet Laptop Mag.
The person in charge believes that Google does not have a real vision or ambition to push the XR space. He noted that while Google has the opportunity to take a leadership position in the AR+AI glasses space, the company seems to lack clear long-term planning and ambitions.
In fact, Google presented the concept of Project Astra's real-time AI assistant through glasses at this year's I/O developer conference, but its core purpose was not to bring it to market as a standalone product, but rather to find a partner to commercialize it together. This strategy has led to questions about whether Google really intends to launch a competitive XR product.
Former executives revealed that Google is reluctant to take the risk of hardware manufacturing alone, preferring to let partners share the burden. This attitude may have affected Google's investment and determination in the XR space.

Nvidia is said to be developing a new flagship AI chip for the Chinese market that complies with current United States export controls
On July 22, according to sources, Nvidia is developing a new flagship artificial intelligence (AI) chip for the Chinese market that complies with United States' current export controls. Sources said Nvidia will partner with Inspur, one of its main distributors in China, to distribute the chip, tentatively named "B20."
It is understood that this "B20" chip is based on the Blackwell series GPU architecture launched by Nvidia in March this year. The B200 chip in the Blackwell family integrates 208 billion transistors, which is 2.6 times faster than the previous generation and 30 times faster than its predecessor on some tasks. As a result, the "B20" chip is expected to reach a high level of performance.
According to sources, shipments of "B20" chips are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2025. This means that the chip is still some time away from being officially launched, but Nvidia is already actively preparing for it.
In recent years, the United States government has strengthened controls on China's cutting-edge semiconductor exports, but despite facing export controls, the Chinese market still has a large demand for the products of semiconductor companies such as Nvidia. In order to meet this market demand, NVIDIA is still actively developing new chip products for the Chinese market under the premise of complying with United States export control regulations.
