On July 25, Huang Runqiu, President of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) and Minister of Ecology and Environment, presided over the meeting of the Bureau of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity via video. The meeting focused on the preparations for the second meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Digital Sequence Information on Genetic Resources (DSI) and Benefit-sharing, as well as preparations for the sixteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16) and the fifth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI).
The new Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, Astrid ·Shoemaker, attended the meeting and delivered a speech, the President-designate of COP16 and Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Colombia, Mohammed, introduced the preparations for COP16, and the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, David ·Cooper, members of the COP15 Bureau and relevant personnel of the Secretariat, the President of the Subsidiary Body on Executive Subsidiary Body, and the Chair of the Subsidiary Body on Technical and Technological Advice attended the meeting.
Huang Runqiu congratulated Ms. Shoemaker on her appointment as Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, thanked Colombia for its preparatory work for COP16, introduced the progress of China's work as COP15 presidency since the beginning of this year, especially the launch of the Kunming Biodiversity Fund, and expressed his hope for the full and effective implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (hereinafter referred to as the "Kunmeng Framework"). He pointed out that China, as the presidency of COP15, will continue to play a leading and coordinating role and influence in the field of biodiversity, and work with all parties to promote consensus building and jointly support the successful holding of COP16 and achieve the expected results. It is hoped that the members of the Bureau will continue to exert their leadership in various regions, actively convey information, coordinate positions, mobilize all parties to work together to advance the process of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and help the full implementation of the Kunmeng Framework.
