According to Cambodian media news, the Kiha183-182 train purchased by Cambodia from Japan has been successfully put into trial operation on the Phnom Penh-Poipet line, with a total of 4 carriages being Kiha183-4559, Kiha182-7561, Kiha182-7552 and Kiha182-4558, and has now returned to the capital Phnom Penh.
Peng Lin, a spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, pointed out on the afternoon of the 25th that the test run of the train is for the technical team to check the air conditioning system, safety doors and equipment in the carriage in detail to ensure that it provides sufficient safety for passengers during the official operation.
He said that the Kiha 183-182 train runs smoothly on the northern line of the Phnom Penh-Poipet railway, that is, it departed from the capital Phnom Penh on the morning of the 24th of this month. In addition, since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the northern line has been suspended for some time, with only three weekly freight services retained, and the trial run now means that the passenger service on the northern line is reactivated, in addition to checking the train and rail conditions.
The Working Group of the General Directorate of Railways of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia will continue to work with provincial and municipal governments along the Northern Line to address safety issues, including illegal occupation of railways, cables and network cables that may interfere with train movements.
