According to Cambodian media reports, on July 25, thousands of machines have arrived at the site to prepare for the construction of the Cambodian Dechong Funan Canal project. According to the plan, the Dechong Funan Canal project will officially start on August 5.
It is reported that the Funan Canal project starts from Phnom Penh Port in Zion County, Kandal Province and ends at the Port of Kep Province, with a total length of 180 kilometers.
The canal passes through Kandal, Takeo, Kampot and Kep provinces and covers a population of 1.6 million. The project, which includes the construction of 3 canal traffic control stations and 11 bridges across the river, is expected to take four years and total investment of up to US$1.7 billion.
The project will create a large number of employment opportunities after the start of construction, and once completed, it will greatly improve the efficiency of Cambodia's cargo transportation, promote Cambodia's trade and commercial development, and expand the development of agricultural irrigation, aquaculture and animal husbandry in some provinces along the route, and promote the urbanization development process along the route.

In order to celebrate the historic event of the start of the canal, Prince Hun Sen previously suggested that the government should beat gongs and drums and set off fireworks on the day of the start of construction.
Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, has announced that it will hold a 10,000-person carnival concert in front of the Diamond Island Theater in the Baise River Sub-district of Chamkar District from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on August 5, 2024, and will hold the first fireworks show, and the second fireworks show will be held at 21:09 on the Chaktomuk River in front of the Royal Palace that night.
It is reported that the concert is attended by a large number of people, and the traffic may be very busy, in order to ensure the safety of traffic and order during the celebration, the relevant departments hope that the public will be understanding and tolerant.
It should be mentioned that this event was held to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony of the Funan Canal.
