Lead
When I was a child, I lived in my grandmother's house, there was a small river in front of the door, and in the spring season, the wheat in the wheat field by the river turned into a potholed wet area, and in May and June, when the sun shines near summer, there will be a lot of water vapor in the wetland, and along with the steam, there are earthworms that gradually show a red color under the sun.
My grandmother's family is very good to me and my cousin, at this time, they will take me and my cousin to catch earthworms, while catching earthworms, you can also harvest a lot of fresh wild vegetables, the earthworms caught are used for fishing, and then harvest a lot of small fish and shrimp, everyone has a beautiful meal together.
My grandmother and my cousin are all fishing enthusiasts, and this traditional fishing method allows us to feel the joy of fishing and the joy of being in close contact with nature.
I have also maintained a hobby of fishing, not only like fishing itself, but also like to use a variety of novel baits to lure fish, although there are many baits that can play the role of earthworms, but to talk about the most classic, the most versatile bait, or earthworms.
In the outdoor environment, a few high-end baits can represent my level, but earthworms are a necessary basic equipment, without earthworms will never go out fishing, and among the many bait, earthworms are often the best, basically guaranteed to have fish patronage.
But for the bait of earthworms, I found a problem, that is, the effect of fishing with earthworms is often very different, the same den, the same water conditions, and even the same bait, but sometimes there are a lot of fish, and sometimes only one or two are caught, what is the reason for this?
After observing it for a long time, I found out that it was because I had not mastered the skills of using earthworms.
Types of earthworms and catching techniques
There are two types of earthworms, one is the red earthworm, also called the bloodworm, and the other is the black earthworm.
Red earthworms are generally very small, only 2-5cm long, the most common is bacon, a kind of red earthworm, visually bright red, thin and soft, often curved, this earthworm is most suitable for fishing large freshwater fish, such as grass carp, carp, bream and other small omnivorous fish, the advantage of red earthworms is that they are small, which can make fish better have the illusion of biting the hook, compared to the size of black earthworms, red earthworms are also easier for fish to make fish mistake for small insects in the water, so many fishing enthusiasts like to use red earthworms as bait.
Although the red earthworm is used as bait for fishing small fish, it is not suitable for fishing all small fish.
For example, the koi carp, which is born to bite when it sees things, is not interested in bloodworms, mainly because koi fish mainly eat small fish and shrimp in the wild, so it brings out special bait that can be used to catch it, such as insect bait, bloodworms are insect bait for koi, but it still likes to eat.
Black earthworms are different.
Black earthworms are relatively large, usually more than ten centimeters long, and their flesh is relatively dark, and some are even dark black, so they are called black earthworms.
The size of the black earthworm is much larger than that of the bloodworm, which is not conducive to fish swallowing, and the flesh of the black earthworm is thicker and more delicious, so it is mostly used to catch carnivorous fish.
Black earthworms are generally divided into two categories, one is living in wetlands or mud in mountain forests, and this kind of black earthworm has a pointed head from the appearance.
The other type is living in the water or in the mud at the water's edge, this kind of black earthworm has a relatively blunt head from the appearance, so this black earthworm is also called needleworm, widely distributed in the rivers and lakes of the mainland.
Black earthworms have special living habits, and only in certain seasons will they be all over the soil near the shore, which happens to be from June to September every year.
Because of the hot weather in summer, black earthworms will emerge from the mud in the water first and crawl into the mud on the shore to cool off.
Then the surface temperature gradually rises until the small earthworms are dried and can only return to the water, so we can catch a lot of black worms in the soil on the shore during this time.
During the day, the black worms are under the water, and only at night they go out to crawl to the surface to cool down, and the probability of finding the black worms on the surface at this time is relatively small, so the best time to catch the black worms is before ten o'clock in the evening.
It is best to use gloves when catching black worms, and if you scratch them directly with your hands, you may break the worms, but if you use gloves to catch insects, you will only stick the feces on the worm's body to the gloves, so using a combination of gloves and a garbage bag is the best choice for catching black worms.
Fishing tips.
As long as you master the timing and skills of catching black worms, you can easily catch enough black worms every time you go fishing, but the most important thing in fishing is the drift adjustment and the way to wear the hook.
Drifting is one of the most important skills that anglers need to master, in short, drifting is a technique that determines whether the fish bite the hook by floating when not using the bait, there is bait on the hook when fishing, the bait will make the fish easy to take the bait, but if the bait is too heavy, it will make the fish misjudge the timing of the bite, so the angler must learn to adjust the drift.
Anglers adjust the height of the drift tail so that the drift tail does not affect the fish to eat the bait and allows the angler to catch the timing of the fish bite in time, and when fishing in summer, the black worm will make the fish misjudge, so the role of drifting is more important.
Float is divided into bottom fishing drift and fixed fishing drift, and the choice of lead seat will affect the angler's drifting skills, so the lead seat should be selected according to different fish species and waters, generally speaking, the deep water should choose the long lead seat, and the shallow water should choose the short lead seat.
Under normal circumstances, it is more appropriate to use the flat water fishing method when fishing for black worms, this fishing method requires the hook tip to be slightly exposed to the water, and the part of the tadpole gang is replaced with black worms, if the bottom fishing method is used, it is easy to cause the black worms to be drowned, resulting in a decrease in the hook rate, so the flat water fishing method is more commonly used.
The order in which the hook is threaded also affects the effectiveness of the fishing, the fish will generally swim from behind, bite the tail of the black worm first, and then slowly swim forward until the whole black worm is swallowed, so to make the hook easier to take, you need to expose the hook tip as much as possible to the surface of the water to increase the chance of misjudgment of the fish.
After learning the techniques of drifting and hooking, we can combine earthworms with other baits to improve the lure of fishing.
Strategies for the use of earthworms.
Anglers often use raw worms and corn kernels as bait when fishing in the wild, and this combination of bait can trap many fish, especially carp.
But if there are only insects, then the attraction of the carp will be greatly reduced, because only the pristine environment can attract the attention of the carp, and this environment only appears in the late winter and early spring in the spring and autumn seasons.
This is the breeding season for carp, and all the carp will return to the mud and sand of their birthplace to breed, and the carp at this time are more likely to be attracted by the bulging earthworms and swim closer to the earthworms.
But if it's in other seasons, earthworms will be eaten more often, and carp will not be attracted to it.
In addition, in the summer, there are not many earthworms in the wild environment now, and even if they can be found, the fishing effect will not be very good.
Therefore, when fishing in the summer, it is more effective to use bait such as corn kernels or bread.
epilogue
In the process of fishing, earthworms are always an indispensable bait, although in some cases we feel that earthworms are not attractive enough, but this is often caused by our failure to master the skills of using earthworms and choose suitable fishing methods.
As long as we practice more and master the experience, we can let the earthworm play its maximum role and improve the effect of fishing.
When choosing bait, it is necessary to choose the most suitable bait combination according to different fish species and seasons, combined with the characteristics of earthworms, in order to achieve better fishing results, and wish everyone more harvest and fun in the process of fishing.
