The Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea are turbulent, and anti-China forces are ready to move. Recently, Japan's "Yomiuri Shimbun" broke the news in combination with the latest satellite photos: At present, the PLA is simulating civilian ro-ro ships to organize troops to carry out cross-sea delivery exercises. Some military fans may ask, we have a large number of landing ships, as well as tens of thousands of tons of amphibious assault ships and aircraft carriers, why do we still requisition civilian ro-ro ships? In fact, the transportation capacity of civilian ro-ro ships is comparable to that of 10 aircraft carriers, which demonstrates the combat determination of the PLA, and can also make foreign forces unpredictable, fully reflecting the value of surprise soldiers.
Speaking of the conversion of civilian ships to military use, there are many cases in the history of modern warfare. Especially in the two world wars, both the Allies and the Axis powers had a large number of civilian ships converted into warships. Even, the first aircraft carrier of the United States Navy, the USS Langley, was converted from a coal carrier. After all, the R&D and construction of large ships requires a certain period, often several years, war waits for no one, and a large number of ready-made merchant ships and cargo ships can be put into the battlefield with a little modification.
Even in the 80s of the 20th century, the United States Navy launched the "Arsenal Ship" program, preparing to equip the 100,000-ton civilian super container ship with hundreds of "Tomahawk" cruise missiles, making it a land strike platform ship with great lethality. Of course, compared with all kinds of warships, the civilian ro-ro ships requisitioned by the PLA this time are used for cross-sea delivery, so they do not need to be retrofitted and can be used at any time.
The reason why civilian ro-ro ships, which shuttle between ports on a daily basis, can become an important force of the PLA's maritime delivery is because of its unique loading and unloading methods and wide applicability, which have shown great potential in the military field. According to the division, ro-ro ships are mainly divided into pure freight ro-ro ships, vehicle/passenger ro-ro ships and other types, because of the large number of these ro-ro ships, wide distribution, low cost, good stability, so in the dual-use of military and civilian well-received, can show a strong transport capacity at critical moments, fully worthy of the name of "second navy".
Once we enter a wartime state, we can mobilize a large number of civilian Ro-Ro ships to participate in sea delivery missions in a short period of time. These vessels are not only capable of meeting the needs of formed units for cross-sea projection, but are also capable of carrying a variety of heavy equipment and supplies. More importantly, the shipbuilding industry on the mainland is very developed, and the threshold for the construction of civil ro-ro ships is not high, and many domestic shipyards can build them. This also means that civilian ro-ro ships can be continuously replenished, which gives the PLA a solid guarantee for the rapid expansion of maritime transportation forces.
At present, among the civilian roller ships in service, in terms of popularity and carrying capacity, the "Bohai Cuizhu" and "China Rejuvenation" ships can be said to be a leader. Among them, the "Bohai Cuizhu" is a large car/passenger ro-ro ship with a displacement of 36,000 tons, which is only slightly smaller than the mainland's 075 amphibious assault ship. It has excellent loading capacity, is also equipped with advanced communication and command systems and helicopter take-off and landing platforms, and has shone in many military exercises. The other "China Renaissance" ship has a displacement of up to 44,000 tons, which is larger than the tonnage of the France Navy's nuclear-powered aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle". In addition to having more loading space and more transport capacity, it is one of the few in Asia in terms of safety, sophistication and luxury.
Judging from the current situation around the mainland, an amphibious landing war is most likely to occur in the Taiwan Strait. With the Taiwan authorities colluding with the United States Government, military reunification has come infinitely closer. In an operation against Taiwan, once the PLA controls air and sea supremacy, it only needs to use 10 civilian ro-ro ships in wartime to send a medium-sized composite brigade to Taiwan Island at one time within a few hours. Within 24 hours, the PLA will be able to send 2-3 medium composite brigades to Taiwan. With a thunderous momentum, the PLA immediately sent heavy troops to Taiwan Island, forming a thunderous overwhelming momentum against the defenders of Taiwan Island. In a quick victory, the PLA will not give United States any time to react and intervene.
