In 1988, Lai Ning, a 14-year-old boy from Shimian County, Ya'an City, Sichuan, died heroically in order to fight a mountain fire. In 1989, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the State Education Commission awarded Lai Ning the glorious title of "Heroic Youth" and called on young pioneers of all ethnic groups across the country to learn from Lai Ning.
In the center of the main entrance of Qingdao Dongzhongjiawa Primary School, the "Lai Ning Statue" once stood.
In 1992, in the classroom of a primary school to be demolished in Qingdao, the slogan "Learn from Laining to be a good child of the party" was displayed above the blackboard.
Countless schools have erected statues of Raining
Since then, the whole country has ushered in an upsurge of "learning from Laining", and titles such as "Laining Class" and "Laining Squadron" have sprung up in primary and secondary schools across the country. Lai Ning has become a role model for children throughout the country to learn, and "learning from Lai Ning to be a good child of the party" has also become the memory of a generation of children.
However, in recent years, the social controversy over the protection of children and the courage to act in the face of justice has been increasing, with mixed reviews. Learning from heroes and doing good deeds is no longer unanimously "optimistic" and has become a strange appearance on the Internet, which has also led to the removal of Laining statues in many schools, and the content of propaganda and education has also been deleted or shelved.
It is indeed necessary to put the safety of life first, especially for underage children. In the event of a disaster, how to guide and educate children, face and deal with it while ensuring their own safety, should also become a regular educational content, but Laining's spirit should not be forgotten with the disappearance of textbooks.
