RealEstate reported on 30 July that a duplex house in Queensland that was flooded during Cyclone Jasper was sold within four hours of being listed online, and many buyers missed out on the opportunity to buy the home.

This duplex home is located at 15 Mimosa St on Holloways Beach, one of the worst-hit suburbs.
Images show that the plaster on the lower part of the interior wall of the house has been removed (indicating the level of flooding), and only the upper part of the interior has remained intact.
James Gilbertson, an agent at LJ Hooker Cairns Beaches, said in the listing description: "All the damaged stucco has been cleaned up and is ready for fresh painting and furnishing. "One of the units has floor tiles, while the other unit has a floor material waiting for the buyer to choose."

Although the record-breaking flooding in December last year is still fresh in our minds, it doesn't seem to have deterred buyers.
The property was listed for sale on the realestate.com.au at approximately 4 pm yesterday (29th), and the contract was signed just 4 hours later.
Gilbertson said the buyer's offer came with an unconditional contract and was on a generous condition that the seller could not refuse.
He would not disclose the exact selling price, but said it was more than "more than $500,000" and the property was reported to be listed for more than $525,000.
"The new owners are from Cairns and think they might renovate and then sell." He said.
"My emails haven't stopped since I was listed online, and I stopped counting them after 153 views."

On 13 December last year, Tropical Cyclone Jasper made landfall near Wujal with the strength of a Category 2 storm and subsequently formed a tropical depression over northern Queensland, bringing persistent heavy rains and causing record flooding.
Parts of Holloways Beach were among the hardest hit by the flooding, which cut off access to more than 50 homes.
According to the Australian Insurance Council, more than 9,900 insurance claims have been filed across the region, with a total claim value of more than $357 million, of which $166 million is outstanding. However, this house on Mimosa St is not the first disaster-stricken property to regain its new owner.

A house in Machans Beach was sold after attracting 5 offers from local and non-state buyers, after flooding 800mm high.
Property records show the property was sold for $328,000, with Marsh Property Cairns agent Chris Marsh saying the deal was largely based on land value expectations.
In March, another damaged house in Caravonica was also sold for $400,000.

Back to this duplex home in Holloways Beach. This property sits on a 779sqm plot and both units are in need of refurbishment.
Each unit has two bedrooms, a bathroom, an open plan living area, kitchen and indoor laundry room in the carport. In addition, there is a large outdoor recreation area with awnings and a storage shed.
Gilbertson is now preparing for the listing of two more affected properties, one at Machans Beach and the other at Caravonica.
He said most of the enquiries for the affected properties came from locals and investors.
"Anyone who knows these areas knows that record floods like this are unlikely to happen again for a long time," he said.
"I've gotten a lot of calls from investors. Out-of-state buyers are a little nervous. ”
