Ugandan students unlock their dream of smart transportation entrepreneurship in Airport New City

"There are a lot of roads that I can remember just by walking once!" THE WORDS OF UGANDAN STUDENT OKOTH MICHAEL AGGREY (Chinese: MAGHREY) REVEAL THE CONFIDENCE OF A FOREIGN "XI'AN". In 2010, Margery came to Xidian University to study, and in the past few years, he not only knows the big and small scenic spots, but also has a lot of traffic lights on which road, which road is often jammed with traffic, these seemingly trivial information, he can come easily.

"I feel like I can be a tour guide in Xi'an!" He joked. This familiarity with Xi'an stems from Margery's infinite love for food. In addition to attending classes, he is either tasting food or on his way to find good food.

Compared with large restaurants such as hotel restaurants, Margeri prefers "down-to-earth" small stores, "I like Shaanxi noodles very much, especially Huitong noodles. He said that whenever I have free time, I explore small restaurants and snack streets with my friends. It is this persistent exploration of food that has made him a "living map" walking in Xi'an.

"From a young age, I've been interested in disassembling and repairing electronic devices, especially those complex circuit boards and delicate electronic components." Margery shares his childhood memories of an obsession with the world of electronics that led him to the path of electronics research, from undergraduate to Ph.D.

A traffic light research and design experience during his master's degree became a turning point in his innovative thinking. In the process of walking in Xi'an, he found that the control mode of traditional traffic lights is too rigid, and the lights at various intersections are set unchanged, which cannot be flexibly adjusted according to real-time road conditions, and it is easy to get stuck in traffic during peak hours, which greatly reduces the efficiency of urban traffic.

Therefore, in Margeri's mind, he came up with the idea of using big data analysis and intelligent algorithms to make the traffic lights respond to traffic conditions in real time, accurately adjust the traffic light duration, and make the traffic lights at each intersection become a small smart unit, and finally combine them into the city's "smart transportation" system to improve traffic efficiency.

Just do it, Margery immediately took action to start a business. He drove a car to all corners of the city, carefully inspected the road conditions in different areas, and recorded the setting and actual operation of each traffic light, which not only provided valuable first-hand information for his business plan, but also gave him a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the urban transportation network.

"Very happy! Your own company is about to be established in China! Margeri was excited with the newly released business license, and not long ago, his company (Shaanxi Margeris Technology Co., Ltd.) successfully completed the registration procedures in the Airport New Town, Xixian New Area.

MAHARI ISSA MAHAMANE ATTAHER (Chinese: LI CHEN) FROM NIGER IS A SENIOR AT XIDIAN UNIVERSITY, AND THE TWO ARE JOINTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COMPANY'S TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT. ALLAN OCHIENG (Chinese: Allen), also from Uganda, is mainly responsible for the company's market development business. As the only Chinese in the team, Zhang Quanquan focuses on the operation and management of the company, and in her opinion, Margery's obsession and seriousness in technology have made his entrepreneurial dream a reality.

When Maggery shared his vision for smart mobility with them, the four quickly agreed to join forces to "make the dream a reality." In this way, four young people from different countries and different cultural backgrounds who love electronic technology have planted the "seeds" of entrepreneurship in the Airport New City of Xixian New Area.

"In just three days, the company quickly completed the registration!" Margery said that it was his first time to set up a company and he didn't know much about the policy, and the staff of the Airport Economic Development Center of Airport New City helped him answer many questions about the company registration process and accompanied him throughout the process.

The reason why the Airport New City was chosen as the company's entrepreneurial base is that it is a new area that is different from the old city, with a more modern urban style, a more friendly business environment, and a constantly "growing and changing" transportation network, which can provide unique conditions for the company's traffic lights to be tested and optimized in the field. As Qin Chuangyuan's airport industry gathering area and open cooperation demonstration zone, the strong scientific and technological innovation atmosphere, perfect open function, and strong support for foreign talents to start their own businesses are also important factors that attract him.

"After the establishment of the company, a set of intelligent traffic lights research and development and testing system will be initially established." Margery said that he hopes to cooperate with large enterprises in the industry in the future to promote product innovation and contribute to the construction of smart cities through resource integration and technical collaboration. In addition, Margeri also hopes to take the opportunity of the "Air Silk Road" to break through geographical restrictions in the future, and bring the technology back to his hometown to promote it to more countries that jointly build the "Belt and Road".
