I often tell my patients about the importance of winter illness and summer treatment, and summer, especially dog days, is the best time to nourish the lungs.
Why?
The lungs are delicate, and many patients must have heard of it, but it must be unclear how delicate they are and what harm they are when the lungs are damaged.
The mouth and nose are the gateway of the lungs, so the lungs are very susceptible to the invasion of diseases, and the lungs are canopies, sheltering the internal organs, so once the lungs are damaged, the entire internal organs will be damaged.
Traditional Chinese medicine believes that there are three fears in the lungs, but which are the three fears?
One is afraid of "dryness".
Dryness is easy to consume the fluid, hurt the vitality of the lungs, and induce all kinds of lung diseases. Although it is humid and hot in summer, it is easy to dry up the diet, so it is necessary to take extra precautions to avoid lung damage.
Second, I am afraid of the "cold" evil.
Cold evil is easy to enter through the mouth and nose, so that the lung qi is stagnant, and the fluid is not distributed. Keeping warm from the cold and forcing out the cold and dampness in the body can help the lungs to reduce diseases in autumn and winter, especially in summer, when the yang qi is sufficient, and the moisture is easier to discharge.
3. Fear of "sadness".
Excessive sadness and sorrow can easily damage the lung qi and cause it to run abnormally. Therefore, you should keep your mood happy to nourish your lungs.
If you want not to get sick in summer and get less sick in autumn and winter, according to my more than 50 years of medical experience, you should do at least three things:
1. Eat to save hardships and increase hardships:
Sun Simiao, the medicine king of the Tang Dynasty, has a cloud in "A Thousand Golden Prescriptions": "On the seventy-second day of summer, save hardships and increase hardships to nourish lung qi." ”
In summer, the heart is hot, although bitter food can clear away heat and relieve fire, but overeating can help the heart and lungs, so it is advisable to reduce bitterness and increase hardship. The spicy taste returns to the lung meridian, which can diverge qi and invigorate the blood, and can be eaten in moderation with spicy foods such as green onions, ginger, and garlic to nourish the lung qi.
2. Keep warm and avoid cold in life:
Although it is hot in summer, excessive greed for cold can easily cause cold evil to invade, hurt the yang energy of the lungs, and cause the upper respiratory tract immunity to decline.
Therefore, the temperature of the air conditioner should not be too low, the use time should not be too long, and you should eat less cold food, and it is advisable to drink warm boiled water.
3. Reasonable exercise in fitness:
Reasonable exercise can strengthen immunity and resist the invasion of diseases.
Summer sports should be carried out in the early morning and evening when it is cooler, and the amount of exercise should be moderate, such as jogging, tai chi, swimming, etc., which can not only exercise the body, but also not be too strenuous and injure.
Nourishing the lungs is a thing that needs to be adhered to for a long time, in addition to the conditioning with traditional Chinese medicine, but also from the bits and pieces of life, there is no one-size-fits-all solution, thinking about taking medicine when you are sick, and people who don't care if they are not sick, it seems to be trouble-free, but when you are old, it is too late to regret when your body is not good.
