3. A new way to show ads continuously on Instagram

In Instagram feed, stories and Reels, Meta shows ads continuously when there are more relevant and exciting ads to show, while in other cases they show ads sparingly.

These updates include:

1. Tap Video Ad in your Instagram feed to open the Reels push chain, which contains additional ads that have been shown in succession. Given that tapping on an organic video now opens the video in Reels, this update helps create a more consistent user experience between organic content and ads to improve performance.

2. Tap on the multi-agency and advertiser ads in the Instagram feed to open the feed with other ads that have been shown in succession. Ads that have been selected for Instagram feed placements are eligible to appear in feed, regardless of whether they have multi-agency and advertiser advertising features enabled.

Updated 20 advertising guidelines

Meta recently updated its Advertising Standards to be more aligned with our Community Standards. The goal is to increase transparency and to make the review system and external standards more consistent in enforcing and communicating the Community Standards and Advertising Guidelines.

Here are the key changes and descriptions of the 4 policies that have changed the most.

1. Health and Wellness Policy [New Wording + Renaming + Policy Enforcement Change]: This policy will contain the following two policy provisions: 1) weight loss and beauty products and weight loss and cosmetic surgery; and 2) adult products and reproductive health. The following is a summary of key policy enforcement changes. Changes to Prohibited Content:

- Brightening creams that are not advertised as permanently altering skin tone or that act as skin whitening are now allowed to be promoted, with no minimum age requirement for the target audience.

- Before-and-after/side-by-side ads for fitness classes, apps, and performance will be permitted as long as they don't contain physical shaming or negative self-perception signals. Side-by-side ads that show before and after weight loss are still prohibited.

- Side-by-side comparisons will be allowed to depict before and after dental care services, such as teeth whitening and orthodontics (including braces or Invisalign), as long as they do not contain negative self-perception signals that may make people feel bad about themselves.

2. Drug and Pharma Policy [New wording + renaming]: This policy will now include multiple provisions of the Drugs and Pharmaceuticals, High-Risk Drugs, Non-Medical Drugs and Psychedelics, Prescription Drugs, Over-the-Counter Drugs, Marijuana, and Hemp-Derived Products policies. There are no changes to how this policy is enforced.

3. Alcohol [Policy Description]: While there are no changes to how this policy is enforced, we've added additional clarification to further clarify the policy requirements, including prohibiting official agencies and advertisers from advertising ads that promote or reference alcohol in any countries that are not listed/indicated on the policy page.

4. Tobacco and related products [Policy Description]: While there are no changes to how this policy is enforced, we have added additional clarification to further clarify the policy requirements, including that ads must not promote nicotine-free e-cigarettes and health e-cigarettes, and that only anti-smoking ads are allowed to depict smoking or vaping.

1. Update to the Policy on Information Disclosure Requirements for Synthetic Content (July 2024)

In July 2024, Google will update the information disclosure requirements for synthetic content under the Political content policy. Advertisers who use synthetic or digitally processed content in their election ads to misrepresent real or realistic people or events must now disclose this by selecting the checkbox in the "Processed or synthesized content" section in their campaign settings.

If an advertiser serves ads in the following formats and checks the boxes above, Google will generate in-ad disclosures for those ads without the advertiser having to provide their own disclosures.

● In-feed ads that appear on mobile phones

● Shorts ads that appear on your phone

● In-stream ads that appear on computers, mobile phones, mobile websites, and TV screens

Advertisers serving other ad formats will also need to check the box above and provide a prominent disclosure. The disclosure must be clear and unambiguous, and it must be placed in a location that the user may notice. Acceptable disclosures vary depending on the context of your ad, but here are some examples:

● Processed or synthesized content.

● This audio is computer-generated.

● This image does not represent a real event.

● This video content is synthetic.

2. Update to the Health and Medicines Policy (August 2024)

In August 2024, Google Ads will update its Healthcare and medicines policy with a certification for campaigns in France that raise public awareness of health and safety. With this update, government-sponsored or reputable nonprofit health advocacy organizations can use prescription drug terms (including opioid pain medication terms) in ad text, landing pages and keywords.

Advertisers will need to apply for certification from Google. Applications for advertisers in France will open on August 27, 2024.

Violating this policy will not result in an immediate account suspension, and Google Ads will issue a warning at least 7 days in advance.

3. TikTok

Currently, PSA and VSA automatically optimize ads to include both search and non-search positions; In search traffic, the system mainly uses the keywords of the advertised product name and the keyword of the advertised video title to automatically match the search queries of TikTok users.
