Recently, the Australian National University (ANU) announced a brand new scholarship scheme to attract potential students who need to live on campus or move to Canberra, after many eligible students were hesitant to apply for a national university due to relocation and cost of living.

In this first-of-its-kind scholarship program, students who pass the financial situation survey will receive a residence hall on campus in the first year and will receive financial support and counseling guidance later in their studies.

The program will be implemented between now and 2025 and scholarships will be available to all eligible students, regardless of where they come from.

A spokesperson for the Australian National University said the cost of moving out of the home could be an obstacle for talented and qualified potential students to study at the AUS, and scholarships are designed to address this issue.

ANU cannot clearly calculate how much the program will cost and how much the scholarship will be worth. However, the spokesperson said the Australian National University (ANU) would invest millions of Dollars and seek charitable support for the scheme.

On Monday, at the launch of the Australian National University's Strategic Plan 2025, Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt announced the fellowship.

The Australian National University has previously provided scholarships to Aboriginal students and allocated places based on Grade 11 grades through an innovative admissions policy.
