Fencing is also known as the "ballet of fighting". Kong and Cheung Ka-long won gold medals, which ignited the interest of many Hong Kong citizens in fencing. The person in charge of a fencing school in Hong Kong said that his fencing school has about dozens of inquiries on weekdays, and the number of views on social platforms is only a few hundred. He bluntly said that the current fencing boom is a good thing for the development of fencing, but the sport must be persisted and worked hard for a long time to produce results. At the same time, the cost of fencing equipment is not cheap, and he suggested that everyone should participate rationally.
The duty-free allowance for Mainland visitors will be increased to $15,000 and will be extended to all ports with immediate effect
A spokesman for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government said that the Central Government will increase the duty-free quota for luggage and articles carried by mainland residents from Hong Kong from RMB5,000 to RMB12,000 from today (1st), while retaining the policy of purchasing an additional RMB3,000 of duty-free goods at duty-free shops at ports of entry, which will be extended to all ports.
Since its implementation on 1 July, the measures have been well received by Mainland residents and visitors at six land boundary control points, including Lo Wu, Futian (Lok Ma Chau Spur Line), Shenzhen Bay, West Kowloon Station of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link and Zhuhai Highway of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. The HKSAR Government believes that the measures will help bring richer shopping experiences to Mainland resident visitors to Hong Kong, promote diversified tourism development, and stimulate Hong Kong's retail market.
The HKSAR Government has placed publicity materials at different control points and sent SMS messages to inbound Mainland visitors through Mainland mobile operators. In addition, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) launched a new summer campaign on the 11th of last month, giving away 500,000 discounts on transportation, food and consumption to overnight visitors.
The HKSAR Government will continue to make every effort to promote the measure, and support the tourism and retail sectors in organising various promotional activities to attract more overnight visitors to Hong Kong and encourage them to spend more.
As at the end of June, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) recorded about 21 million visitor arrivals, an increase of about 60% year-on-year. During the same period, the number of Mainland visitors to Hong Kong was nearly 16 million, an increase of about 6 percent year-on-year, while the number of non-Mainland visitors was about 5 million, an increase of more than 8 percent year-on-year.
