A few days ago, according to Mitsubishi Motors, the brand has officially joined the newly established Honda-Nissan alliance, and the three companies have also recently signed a memorandum of understanding. It is reported that the three Japan automakers will cooperate in software development and share the research and development costs of electrification. In addition, Nissan and Honda have agreed to supplement models in their respective product lines in parts of the world.
It is reported that the initial agreement between Honda and Nissan was signed in March this year, and Mitsubishi Motors has also joined the cooperation. The joint statement stated that the addition of a third partner would achieve "further synergies" and create "new business opportunities". The goal is to achieve carbon neutrality and move closer to a zero-traffic accident society sooner. This can be achieved by sharing the cost of environmental/electrification technologies as well as software development, and directing competitors to the many domestic brand BEVs in production.
At the same time, Nissan and Honda will also consider sharing models. The two companies have reached a basic agreement on shared models and their sales regions. So far, the two parties have not disclosed the launch schedule of the branded car; The two brands are studying the possibility of cooperation in energy services, including charging, in Japan. The addition of Mitsubishi Motors also indicates that the brand is expected to be integrated into the "shared model" plan, and may return to the domestic market in the form of "rebranding" in the later stage.
