Recently, when the customs officers of the Capital Airport were supervising the inbound express mail, they found that there was an abnormality in the image of an express mail. After the customs officer opened the box for inspection, it was found that the express contained a large number of shells with luster and different colors, which were suspected to be endangered animal products. After the identification of professional institutions, it was confirmed that 2292 of the shells were the shells of the small agate snail of the order Pedicle. This is the first time that Beijing Customs has seized a specimen of endangered agate snail at the port. At present, the item has been intercepted and handed over to the follow-up department for disposal.
The 41 species of snails in the genus are now endangered or even extinct, and are listed in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and are approved as national first-class protected animals.
