According to customs data, in the first half Chinese of 2024, the mainland imported a total of 84.18 million tons of grain, a year-on-year increase of 4.7%, with a decrease in corn imports and an increase in wheat and soybeans.
"Corn:
Corn imports from January to June: The total corn imports from January to June were 11.05 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 8.2%.
Brazil was the largest supplier of corn from January to June, importing 5.764 million mt, or 52% of total imports. Ukraine ranked second in imports from January to June, with 3.613 million tons, accounting for 32.7%. United States ranked third in imports from January to June, with 1.38 million tons, accounting for 12.5%.
"Wheat:
Wheat imports from January to June: From January to June, the mainland's total wheat imports were 9.203 million tons, an increase of about 15% year-on-year.
In terms of import sources, Australia is China's largest wheat supplier, accounting for 34.3% of imports. France, Canada and United States are the second, third and fourth largest suppliers, accounting for 25%, 20.2% and 15.7% respectively.
"Soybeans:
Cumulative soybean imports from January to June: imports: 48.48 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.2%.
Supplier countries: Brazil imported 34.436 million tons, accounting for 71%; United States imported 12.16 million tons, accounting for 25%.
"Rice:
From January to June, the cumulative import of rice and rice from January to June was 720,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of about 59%. Major import sources and proportions: Viet Nam: 215,000 tons, accounting for 29.8% Myanmar: 200,000 tons, accounting for 27.9% Thailand: 198,000 tons, accounting for 27.5% Cambodia: 64,000 tons, accounting for about 9%
From January to June, the cumulative export volume of rice from the mainland totaled 574,000 tons, and the country with the largest export share was Korea, which imported 64,000 tons from China, accounting for about 11.1%.
