Canalys: Global tablet shipments up 18% in Q2 2024

DoNews reported on August 6 that the latest report from Canalys, a world-renowned technology market analysis agency, shows that in the second quarter of 2024, global tablet shipments increased by 18% year-on-year to 35.9 million units. Meanwhile, Chromebook shipments rose 4% to 6 million units as the education market returned to its typical seasonal purchasing model.

In the second quarter of 2024, Apple continued to lead the global tablet market, with 13.9 million units shipped, accounting for 39% of the market share. Powered by strong shipments of Samsung's flagship models and growth in emerging market demand in the Asia-Pacific region, it achieved a year-on-year increase of 13% with shipments of 6.8 million units.

Driven by domestic and EMEA market demand, Huawei ranked third, with shipments of 2.5 million units, up 51% year-on-year. As Lenovo strengthened its global presence, it ranked fourth, with shipments of 2.5 million units, up 16% year-over-year. Xiaomi ranked fifth, surpassing Amazon with a significant 106% growth rate and 2.1 million units shipped.

Global Chromebook market performance

Canalys analyst Greg Davis said Chromebook shipments saw a typical seasonal increase in the second quarter, up 4% year-over-year, with shipments just over 6 million units.

In the Chromebook market, HP continued to maintain its first place with 1.7 million units shipped in the second quarter of 2024 and a market share of 28%. Lenovo came in second, with 1.5 million Chromebooks shipped worldwide, up 9% year-over-year.

Acer, the fastest-growing company in the quarter, came in third with 1.2 million units shipped due to its success in government tenders in the Asia-Pacific region. Dell and Asus ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, with both seeing year-over-year declines in shipments.
