Since joining the Shanghai team in 2013, Wang Xinjie has quickly shown good development potential. In 2015, Wang Xinjie and his teammates won the men's 25-meter rapid fire pistol team championship at the National Youth Shooting Championships, and then won the men's 25-meter rapid fire pistol individual championship at the first National Youth Games. In 2021, Wang Xinjie won the bronze medal in the men's 25m rapid fire pistol competition at the 14th National Games.

In 2023, Wang Xinjie made persistent efforts and won two gold medals in the men's 25-meter rapid fire pistol team and the men's 25-meter standard pistol team at the World Shooting Championships with his stable state and excellent performance. At the Asian Games in Hangzhou, he and his teammates worked together to win the men's 25m rapid-fire pistol team championship and set a new world record. In October 2023, Wang Xinjie won the men's 25m rapid-fire pistol team championship, the men's 25m standard pistol individual runner-up and the team runner-up at the Asian Shooting Championships. At the beginning of this year, Wang Xinjie stood out in the men's 25-meter rapid fire pistol trials of the national shooting team at the Paris Olympics and was selected for the Paris Olympics.

In the two rounds of men's 25m rapid fire pistol preliminaries on August 4, Wang Xinjie showed a good competitive state, and he ranked second with 587 rings to enter the final.
