Europe and the United States waved tariffs to chase and intercept, but they could not stop Chinese cars from going to sea. BYD, which is gaining momentum, once again won an overseas order of 100,000 vehicles. Wang Chuanfu fired another shot overseas, and Tesla's Musk was a little sour and a little painful.
1. Received an order for 100,000 units
In October 2022, BYD signed a cooperation agreement with Germany car rental company SIXT, under which SIXT will purchase at least 100,000 new energy vehicles from BYD in the next six years. As the inventor of the automobile, Germany is a global leader in the automotive industry. For more than 100 years, Germany has been regarded as the center of the European automotive industry and a bellwether for the automotive industry. As the largest global car rental company in Germany and the largest in Europe, SIXT chose BYD over Germany car companies, which shows that in the era of new energy vehicles, BYD has surpassed many German car companies to some extent.
SIXT's purchase of BYD's 100,000 cars has made many media in Europe and the United States sour. Recently, BYD once again won a large overseas order. On July 31, BYD and Uber, the world's largest travel company, officially announced a cooperation news at the same time: First, Uber will purchase 100,000 BYD cars at one time for drivers in Europe, South America and other regions. Second, the two companies will also cooperate in the future to develop BYD's self-driving cars and deploy them on the Uber platform. Mobility companies in Europe and the United States have given large purchase orders to BYD, rather than European and American car companies, which shows that Chinese cars have world-class competitiveness.
2. Wang Chuanfu fired another shot
If China wants to change from a big automobile country to an automobile power, it is the only way to set sail to conquer the global automobile market. Seizing the opportunity of the era of new energy vehicles, BYD has defeated all foreign and joint venture brands in the domestic market and gained a leading advantage. At the same time, BYD is also actively going to sea. In terms of commercial vehicles, BYD went overseas earlier, and its footprint has spread to six continents, including Amsterdam, London, Tokyo and Sao Paulo, and the cumulative delivery volume has exceeded 80,000 units. In addition, the pace of BYD passenger cars going overseas is also getting faster and faster.
In September 2022, BYD announced that it would build factories in five overseas countries, with a total planned production capacity of more than one million vehicles. Recently, BYD's first overseas large-scale passenger car plant was officially completed and put into operation in Thailand. At the same time, BYD has also built its own car transport fleet to accelerate the export of finished vehicles. Last year, BYD's exports exceeded 240,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 337%; Exports in the first half of this year totaled 203,400 units, up 173.8% y/y. BYD has now won a large order of 100,000 vehicles from Uber, which is another shot by Wang Chuanfu to the overseas market.
3. Tesla Musk is sour
On the day BYD signed the contract with Uber, Tesla's Musk said meaningfully on Twitter: "BYD must change its technical route as soon as possible, otherwise it will be dangerous." As soon as this remark came out, it sparked heated discussions among netizens. Many netizens analyzed that there are two main reasons why Musk's words are more decisive and even a little broken. First, Uber, which is also a United States company, gave a large order of 100,000 units to BYD, not Tesla. BYD grabbed a big order that originally belonged to Tesla, and Musk's face may be a little unbearable.
Second, Musk regards the robotaxi market as the focus of future business layout. Now that BYD and Uber are working in this field, and Robotaxi "cake" has a powerful divider, can Musk not worry? Not only robbing Tesla's business, but also posing a threat to its proud vision, it is not difficult to understand that Musk broke the defense, so he is sore and painful. What needs our attention even more is the change in Musk's political attitude. He has always supported the Democratic Party, but now he has leaned towards the Republican Party, at one point giving $450 billion a month to Trump.
The reason for this, in addition to hating the gender policy of the Democratic Party, Musk may hope to use Trump to implement tougher trade protection policies, so as to prevent Chinese car companies such as BYD from entering the United States. Previously, Musk once said: "If there are no trade barriers, Chinese car companies will conquer the world." "If Trump comes to power, Tesla will be able to take it both ways and enjoy the dividends of the Chinese and American markets. Of course, no matter how the United States tosses, BYD's strength is unstoppable. JPMorgan Chase & Co. expects BYD's annual sales to reach 6 million units in 2026, of which about 1.5 million units will come from overseas markets.
