Baihar is the chief deity of the worldly protector deity worshipped by the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Legend has it that Lord Baihar spent 700 years at Samye Monastery and moved to Nai Khao Monastery near Drepung Tsang Gyatso (1617-1682 AD) during the reign of the 5th Vajra Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso, where he lived. The leader of the seven Bava brothers, who was subdued by Guru Rinpoche, took over as Baihar and became the protector of Samye Monastery.
