Founded in 1898 as part of the Gordon & MacPhail group, Benromach Distillery in Speyside, Scotland was once the smallest distillery in Speyside.
The oldest Ben Norman is an official single cask whisky released in 2005. Distilled in 1949 and matured in an oak barrel numbered 706, bottled in 2005, 55 years old, with an alcohol content of 42.4% ABV and a capacity of 700ml, it was supplied in just 83 bottles, each with a unique number (the number is written in the middle of the label). Other than that, no other Normanques have been found to be 55 years old or older.
In 2019, Benromach once again launched an official bottling whisky - Benromach 50 year old (hereinafter referred to as B502019), which was distilled on 11 June 1969 and matured in Refill EX-Sherry Hogshead casks with cask number 2003, bottled on 12 June 2019, aged 50 years and 44.6% ABV. It had a capacity of 700ml (750ml for the United States version), a bottle size of 125 bottles, each with a unique number, and the official suggested retail price at the time was £8,000. It is worth noting that B502019 is the second oldest bottled whisky from this Normanque.
On September 10, 2024, Benromach 50 year old 2024 Release (hereinafter referred to as B502024) was released. Distilled on 13 December 1972 in a 21602403 First-Fill Sherry Hogshead, bottled on 02 March 2023, this 50-year-old spirit with 54.6% ABV by volume, 700ml capacity and 248 bottles per bottle, each with a unique number. Notably, B502024 is tied with B502019 as the second oldest bottled whisky in Ben Normanque.
B502024 official wine reviews are as follows:
Color:
deep amber;
Smell:
The delicate citrus peel aroma is intertwined with the freshness of strawberry and a touch of elegant smoke, and the fruity aroma of pineapple jumps to the tip of the nose, followed by the sweetness of fruit cake and the freshness of lemon sorbet.
Tasting:
The flavor of the stewed fruit and the freshness of the orange peel complement each other, revealing the calmness of aged leather. The flavours of Maggi dates and flame-roasted bananas gradually transition to the richness of crispy almonds;
Epilogue:
Long and full-bodied, the spicy aroma of black pepper and a hint of light smoke linger on the aftertaste.
In addition, the B502024 No. 1 bottle comes with a unique B502024 limited edition print and a distillery tour where you can experience a special "Distilling Master for a Day" activity at the Ben Norman Distillery. In this activity, you'll join the Ben Norman team to learn and experience first-hand how to make Ben Norman whisky, and enjoy a B502024 tasting of whiskey.
Ben Norman has teamed up with Glasstorm Glassmaster Brodie Nairn in Scotland to create an exclusive handmade glass bottle for B502024. Each bottle is hand-engraved using the unique "Battuto technique" of master glassmakers, and each bottle can only be produced by hand for two bottles per person per day, while each bottle is a unique work of art.
The wine is now available at select retailers around the world, with an official suggested retail price of £20,000, or about 186,000 yuan at the current exchange rate, except for the first bottle.
