United States Secret Service foiled an assassination attempt suspected of targeting Trump
The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation said on the 15th that the United States Secret Service foiled an assassination plot suspected of targeting former president and Republican presidential candidate Trump in West Palm Beach, Florida that afternoon. Trump is safe and sound, and the suspect has been caught.
The United States Secret Service said at a press conference that afternoon that the incident occurred near Trump National Golf Club at 13:30 local time, while Trump was playing golf. Secret Service agents spotted a suspect sticking a gun out of the stadium fence and shooting at Trump to stop it. The suspect then fled in a car and was later arrested in neighboring Martin County. No one was injured in the incident.
Palm Beach County Police Chief Rick · Bradshaw, Florida, told the media that the suspect was hiding in the bushes about 400 meters from Trump, and police later found an AK-47 assault rifle equipped with a scope and captured him in Martin County based on clues provided by witnesses.
The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a statement saying it had responded and was investigating the suspected assassination against Trump.
The Trump campaign issued a statement on the same day saying that Trump was in a safe state. Trump himself said: "I'm safe, fine!"
United States President Joe Biden and Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris have been briefed on the incident. Harris posted on social media that "there is no market for violence in United States."
On July 13 of this year, Trump suffered an "attempted assassination" at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was wounded by a bullet in the right ear, killing one spectator and seriously injuring two others, and the gunman was killed instantly by Secret Service personnel.
