"The woman spent 600,000 yuan on broken bones to increase the height of the disease", "The guy spent more than 100,000 yuan on broken bones to increase the height and became disabled for life"...... Recently, the topic of "increased broken bones" has continued to occupy hot searches.

"Broken bones increase height", it sounds creepy, how did it become a popular "Internet celebrity" surgery at the moment?
The past and present life of "broken bones increase".
The so-called "broken bone heightening" is also called "limb lengthening", also known as "bone lengthening". The operation originated in the last century, and the core of the operation is the "Ilizarov technique", which was pioneered and developed by the former Soviet medical pioneer G. Ilizarov.
During his work, Irizarov often received some patients with lower limb injuries and deformities caused by war wounds, but due to the limited surgical skills at that time, Irizarov could only perform some manual reduction and plaster immobilization, resulting in extremely poor treatment results, and some unfortunate patients even faced the risk of amputation.
In order to solve this problem, Irizarov, who came from the workers' and peasants' school, began to think carefully about tools. Borrowing from the wheel structure of bicycles, he invented the annular external fixator and applied it to the post-injury treatment of fracture patients.
During one of the treatments, Dr. Irizarov was on a temporary business trip and asked the patient to adjust the threaded rod of the retainer on his own. Who knew that the patient made a mistake in operation, did not pressurize the severed limb as required, but widened the distance of the fracture and broken end fixator step by step, and finally stretched the position of the broken bone by 2cm.
But miraculously, through X-ray examination, the patient's fracture has healed normally, and what is even more miraculous is that the patient is not only well, but also has a longer leg. It turns out that when the broken end after the fracture is pulled, the formation of new bone is stimulated, and the leg becomes longer.
This is undoubtedly a blockbuster discovery. Since then, Irizarov has devoted himself to the technology.
However, due to the lack of scientific data and the support of clinical trial results that meet the requirements, the treatment was not recognized for a while.
However, an incident in 1968 completely changed this embarrassing situation.
Brummel, the former Soviet world high jump record setter, who was at risk of amputation at the time, approached Irizarov, and for him, it was just a reluctant last stand.
To everyone's surprise, after Brummel was treated with an external fixator, the high jumper, who was sentenced to "death" by the Moscow University Hospital, slowly regained his ability to walk normally. Later, after professional rehabilitation, he eventually returned to the game as an athlete.
After this battle, Irizarov became famous. The Ilizarov technique is also hailed as one of the milestones in the history of orthopedic development in the 20th century, spreading all over the world.
The style of painting deviates from the "Magnificent Thaumaturgy"
The Ilizarov technique is a classic orthopedic technique, which is mainly used in limb deformity correction, bone lengthening and bone defect repair. Its core principle is the law of tension stress, which promotes the regeneration of bone and soft tissue through continuous, slow and steady stretching of bones or limbs.
In today's society of "appearance anxiety" and "height anxiety", some people who are hungry for profit smell the business opportunities of "scientific heightening", so "broken bones and heightening" are labeled as "medical beauty", and a black industrial chain for healthy people is quietly breeding in many private hospitals.
On the Internet, there are many cases of failure to "increase the height of broken bones", and if you click on any one, they are all the words of the parties who regret their mistakes and strong accusations against illegal institutions.
Recently, The Paper has carried out a series of reports on this topic.
One of the cases was a girl who went to a hospital in Shandong Province to undergo broken bone augmentation surgery under the introduction of the "medical trust", but after the operation, it was not "able to run and jump" as promised by the "medical trust" and the doctor, but there was unbearable pain, inability to run fast, inability to walk and stand for a long time, which made the girl regret it very much, "I feel that I have become disabled".
According to the girl's recollection, the "doctors" who operated on her were Zhang and Qi. At present, the Cultural and Health Center of Heze Luxi New District has filed a case for investigation of the hospital and doctor Qi Moumou involved, and for another "doctor" Zhang Moumou, the Cultural and Health Center is working with the public security to find it.
In fact, there has long been a consensus in the industry that "broken bone augmentation" is an extreme and high-risk surgical method.
The principle of "broken bone augmentation" is to use orthopedic osteotomy to "open" the closed bone growth line in the lower leg or thigh, and install a limb extender with a drafting effect outside the body, and slowly lengthen the limb at a rate of 0.5 mm to 1 mm per day, depending on the tissue regeneration ability and characteristics of each person. The method of extension is to use a tool to rotate the limb extender to play the role of traction and elongation.
Zhang Hao, chief physician of orthopedics at a well-known tertiary hospital in Shanghai, said in an interview with China News Weekly: "The surgical technique is mature, but there are risks in itself, and the probability of complications is very high. In addition, he said, "the quality of bone that is prolonged by surgery is much worse than that of naturally grown bone, and the bone is more fragile and soft, and the limb function is reduced, which can easily lead to fractures." "Many patients who have achieved bone lengthening need surgery to insert a steel plate or bone graft to prevent bone breakage after removing the external fixator. In addition, there are a few cases of paralysis due to nerve damage, vascular damage, or even limb necrosis requiring amputation after surgery.
In fact, the medical aesthetic nature of broken bone augmentation has long been stopped in the mainland. From 2006 to 2007, the Ministry of Health issued two notices on broken bone augmentation. According to the 2007 notice, the indications for this surgery are bone defects or limb unequal lengths caused by congenital malformations, trauma, tumors, infections, etc., as well as limb deformities caused by diseases. If the above indications are not met, the operation is strictly prohibited; It is strictly forbidden to use in cosmetic procedures. In addition, the medical institution that performs the operation shall be a qualified tertiary general hospital or an orthopedic specialized hospital, with the "orthopedic" diagnosis and treatment subject approved by the health administrative department.
Today, "Xinhuanet" even issued an article criticizing "Don't be fooled and lame by "Broken Bones Increase Height", which directly pointed out that those young people who were ruthless to themselves in order to "increase their height" were deceived from beginning to end, until they became de facto disabled people, and they regretted it. A search on the Chinese Judgments Online reveals that there are many dispute cases arising from the failure of the surgery to increase the height of the broken bones. Even if the patient eventually receives some financial compensation through legal means, the lifelong disability left behind will be with him for the rest of his life. Therefore, "Xinhuanet" said that in order to prevent the continued abuse of broken bone augmentation, it is necessary to be ruthless in the relevant interest chain, and must not be soft.
It is reported that since the report of "broken bones increased" fermented, multiple platforms, including Tieba, Kuaishou and Douyin, responded that they had launched an investigation, and many accounts involved had been dealt with.
Why are prohibited surgeries so popular?
To be clear, we cannot deny the contribution of the Ilizarov technique to orthopedics.
For patients with achondroplasia (ACH), Donaldson et al. used the Ilizarov technique to treat 10 children with ACH, although the complication rate was as high as 70%, none of them left long-term sequelae, and the parents of the children were satisfied with the treatment results. Kim et al. counted the efficacy of bilateral limb lengthening in 22 patients with ACH, and the quality of life of patients was significantly improved despite the frequent postoperative complications.
For adult patients, a long-term study with a follow-up period of more than 30 years found that the Ilizarov technique was effective in some tibial fractures with bone defects or tibial deformities.
The birth of Ilizarov's bone transfer technology is a milestone in the treatment of osteomyelitis and bone defects, which has made a qualitative leap in the treatment effect.
Therefore, we cannot ignore its significance.
There is no right or wrong in the technology itself, but when applied to different people, there will be an experience of "honey of A, arsenic of B".
However, the "increased height of broken bones" packaged as medical aesthetic surgery has caused many people to be "almost disabled", why is it still "popular"?
1. Height anxiety
Zhao Fangcheng, chief physician of the endocrinology department of a tertiary hospital in Beijing, said, "This is not only a technical problem, but also a social problem, and behind this is a concentrated outbreak of social height anxiety." ”
Some people who are not in an ideal state often have anxiety, low self-esteem and other emotions due to the excessive importance of this condition, and once the accumulation of this emotion reaches a critical value, they may be impulsive enough to take great risks to undergo the surgery.
2. "Medical trust" flickering
"Medical trust" and intermediary agencies will accurately grasp the "anxiety points" of the target group, and then amplify the temptation of "heightening" in words and conceal the risk of "broken bones".
According to the surging news report, "Medical Trust" said: "At present, 15w (10,000) one-stop all-inclusive, the chief surgeon of a tertiary public hospital with more than 10 years of experience, sends plastic surgery and beauty sutures, includes accommodation during the 4-month extension period, rehabilitation physiotherapy, aunt nurses, etc.; 10w (10,000) surgery fee, not all-inclusive. ”
With the endorsement of "big hospitals" and "regular doctors", as well as the high-expectation words output by "medical trust", how can people who are already ready to move be able to bear it?
3. Attractive benefits
Due to the high demand and high profits, many private hospitals and beauty institutions in Japan are secretly performing this surgery. In addition, some doctors have also revealed that even some well-known retired doctors have been invited to private institutions for surgery.
But behind the seductive interests there is also a huge crisis -
In mid-August, according to the "Metropolis Express", the director of a public hospital in Shandong went to a private hospital to perform "broken bone augmentation" on a patient, and the doctor was eventually suspended.
In late August, according to The Paper, experts from a tertiary hospital in Henan Province were also suspended for allegedly violating the rules for the operation.
4. The punishment is not enough
Article 37 of the Law of the People's Republic of China People's Government at or above the county level shall give a warning or order a physician to suspend his or her practice activities for not less than six months but not more than one year if he or she violates the health administrative rules and regulations or technical operation norms in his or her practice activities, causing serious consequences. where the circumstances are serious, their practice certificates are revoked; where a crime is constituted, criminal responsibility is pursued in accordance with law.
It can be seen that at present, the punishment for institutions and doctors who illegally carry out bone augmentation surgery is not large, so they will inevitably be unscrupulous.
Finally: I hope that under the bombardment of this wave of news, every healthy person can face up to the "broken bone enhancement surgery", and do not be confused for a while, and regret it after impulsiveness.
