A reporter from Beijing Youth Daily learned that Shi Banyu, a voice actor known as "Stephen Chow's royal dubbing", died in Beijing on the morning of September 17 at the age of 66. His family posted the obituary via social media.
Shi Banyu, whose real name is Shi Renmao, was born on March 9, 1958 in Taiwan, China, and his ancestral home is Guilin, Guangxi. In 1985, he began to enter the dubbing industry and studied under Master Chen Mingyang, known as the "Taiwan Dubbing Emperor".
His cooperation with Stephen Chow started with the 1990 movie "The Gambler", when Stephen Chow's character in the movie was in urgent need of Mandarin dubbing, so someone recommended Shi Banyu. Stephen Chow was very satisfied with Shi Banyu's dubbing, and asked him to continue dubbing for himself, so the two started their cooperation.
Shi Banyu's representative dubbing works include "The Gambler", "Extreme Road Academy", "Crazy Boy", and has dubbed more than 300 film and television dramas since his career, including the classic TV series "The Legend of the New White Lady", in which Shi Banyu dubbed 16 characters.
