Marathon First Aid Strategy
dehydration
Description: There are dangers associated with working, exercising, or playing in extremely hot environments, and if a person is exposed to extreme heat without proper precautions, it can lead to life-threatening medical conditions.
Symptoms: fatigue, thirst or dry mouth, dizziness, confusion, less urine than usual.
Treatment: Make sure you drink and eat enough food to keep your body hydrated.
Heat cramps
Description: Refers to painful muscle spasms, most commonly in the lower legs, arms, abs, and back.
Symptoms: Muscle cramps, sweating, headache, heat cramps are manifestations of heat-related emergencies that may continue to worsen if no action is taken.
Management and prevention: Rest and cool the patient. Have the person drink a liquid that contains sugar and electrolytes, such as a sports drink or fruit juice, and if you don't have one, drink water. If the patient is able to tolerate it, a bag of ice water can be wrapped in a towel and applied to the spasm area for no more than 20 minutes.
Heat exhaustion
Description: Mild symptoms like heat cramps can quickly turn into heat exhaustion. That's why it's important to recognize heat-related emergencies and administer first aid.
Symptoms: nausea, dizziness, vomiting, muscle cramps, feeling faint or tired, profuse sweating. Management and prevention: Have the patient lie down in a cool place. Remove as much of the patient's clothing as possible. Spray cool water to cool the patient. If cool water is not available to spray, a cool, moist cloth can be placed on the patient's neck, armpits and groin. If the person is responsive and can drink water, the person can be asked to drink a liquid that contains sugar and electrolytes, such as a sports drink or fruit juice, or if it is not available.
Cardiac arrest
Description: Cardiac arrest can lead to sudden death from exercise. The essence is that after the ventricles are abnormally fibrillated, the heart will briefly stop beating and stop supplying oxygen, and the human brain only stores oxygen for about 10 seconds. If defibrillation and high-quality chest compressions are not performed in a timely manner, the tolerance limit of brain cells to hypoxia at room temperature is usually four minutes after cardiac and respiratory arrest; Four to six minutes, irreversible brain damage; The possibility of successful rescue after more than eight minutes is very small, and it is basically difficult to rescue after more than 15 minutes.
Treatment measures: The best time for sudden cardiac death rescue is the "golden 4 minutes". When giving rescue, keep the following steps in mind: Step 1: When someone suddenly falls to the ground and can't call (you can pat the patient on the shoulder and call the patient), first call for help immediately, call the emergency number 120, and get an AED as soon as possible. Step 2: Observe the patient's loss of consciousness, respiratory arrest or wheezing breathing, and immediately do cardiopulmonary resuscitation, by placing the midpoint of the line between the two nipples at the base of one palm of the rescuer, and placing the root of the other palm parallel to the first palm, crossing the fingers of both hands, lifting the fingers out of the chest wall, straightening the elbow joints, and pressing the shoulders and hands vertically and continuously and forcefully downwards rapidly, with a compression depth of 5-6 cm and a frequency of 100-120 times per minute, and continuous compressions until the AED is obtained or the ambulance arrives. Step 3: The AED arrives at the scene and gives defibrillation in time.
Best wishes to all
Race safely, finish safely!
