Genevos and NatPower H have teamed up to provide a one-stop solution for hydrogen-powered boats

Genevos, a hydrogen fuel cell powertrain integrator, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NatPower H, a NatPower Group company, to develop a large-scale global network of green hydrogen fueling stations for the yachting industry. The partnership will provide ports, operators and inbound travelers with a turnkey solution to support the transition to hydrogen-powered vessels.

The maritime industry is a major source of global greenhouse gas emissions, with international shipping alone accounting for about 3%. In addition to the negative impact on climate change, the huge vibration engines and motors further disrupt important communication and behavioural patterns between marine species, endangering entire ecosystems.

Genevos hydrogen solutions are based on fuel cell technology and achieve zero vibration and extremely low driving noise through chemical exchange. Hydrogen and fuel cells have been identified as important solutions for the decarbonization of the sector, with infrastructure and power technology underpinning their deployment.

The partnership aims to make rapid positive change in accelerating the yachting industry's transition to hydrogen by focusing on three key deliverables: hydrogen refueling and plug-and-play marine fuel cell powertrains for boats; Access to the world's first hydrogen container configuration tool; and technical expertise in the development of the EU Directive on hydrogen installations.

The two innovative companies have joined forces to deploy this important task, with NatPower H aiming to install 100 hydrogen refueling stations by 2030 and Genevos tasked with mass-producing hydrogen fuel cell systems for ships. These hydrogen power modules (HPMs) developed by Genevos will be certified by classification societies to provide integrators and operators with a safe and simple solution.

In this game-changing partnership, both parties will further support stakeholders through the development of an online-available hydrogen ship configurator that will enable ports, shipyards and ship operators to immediately identify critical needs, including capex and operating expenses.

The final step is the development of industry hydrogen standards, the exchange of technical information between partners, and the optimization of ship refueling solutions in order to determine a standardized process for the development of hydrogen plant standards for EU directives. This collaboration is in line with strong advances in emissions regulations, as well as environmental pressures to reduce underwater noise, vibration, and pollution to protect marine life.

Andrea Minerdo, CEO of NatPower H., said: "Our partnership with Genevos marks an important step in the yachting industry's transition to clean energy. "Together, we will leverage our expertise to develop and implement innovative hydrogen solutions that bring tangible benefits to the yachting industry."

"By using hydrogen as a sustainable fuel source, we are not only addressing the urgent need for decarbonization, but also paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future for the yachting industry."

Rebecca Sharp, CEO of Genevos CE0, added: "This groundbreaking partnership directly responds to the mandatory need to decarbonize the yachting industry and provides a sustainable pathway to zero-emission yachting. ”
